I have been perusing this thread for a while, with the following observations:

1. Though initially I wanted to shoot it out with other .300 WinMags, I was not aware that there weren't that many here.

2. We need to decide on what will be allowed and what won't.

3. We need a cut off date.

4. We need to settle on a target and the source of it so we can all be on the same "sheet of music."

5. How many shots are allowed per target?

6. ALL those interested, just follow this post with the number 3, since I don't want to risk damage to your trigger finger by typing a post.

I'll start, 3...................................................Kingpin

From 1st post in this thread.

"Simple as I can make it, open to BSB members only, use whatever type of "mag" rifle, sights and other gear, that you feel is fair.

$5 entry fee per target, 50/50 split between BSB and winner of class.   BSB share will go to help with site costs.  What the two winners, do with their share of the pot, is up to them.

Enter as many targets and rifles, as you want to.  Mail in time for Judge to receive by 4/30/11, Judge's decision is final.

Wing Master has volunteered as judge, PM him for mailing address for entries.

One hundred yd class.

Standing, sling allowed, any .257 cal "mag" or larger, five shots for score on this target, 50-5X is perfect score, ties broken by group size.

Two hundred yd class

Off bench, any .257 cal "mag" or larger, five shots for score on this target, 50-5X is perfect score, ties broken by group size.

The linked targets will print out on 8 1/2" X 11" paper and are PDF file format, everyone should be able to print them, I printed one of each and they printed fine. "

Revving up the rifles now. I think the two .300 Win Mags, the .30/378, and the .338 Lapua will do nicely. Gentlemen......Put your shooting shoes on (Ladies too if any of them want to play)...............................Kingpin

Those would all fit in the "mag" class, you could even shoot your 50 BMG, if you wanted.  I say the "hot" version of the 45/70, could be considered a "mag", as it increases horsepower & recoil to "mag" levels.

Right now, I'm going for 257wby, 270wsm, 300win and 338win, so that will either be four or five rifles.  I may send in more than one target each or just single target from each.

I'll be interested to see how the various "mags" compare.

I just sent off for some dies for the 338, factory ammo was $50 for the cheap stuff.  I have some loaded up from last year, for the 257wby and 270wsm, so they're ready to go.  Sent in the range renewal check.  Threw one 300win, in the stock I got from Kory, I'll load up some rounds for that one, snows a melting, down to a foot or so.  Should be able to shake a little rust off next week.  It's still 40, too cold for bedding other 300, may have to do it on kitchen table.

I think we have three for sure, three most likely and two if I get load worked up in time.  It's still a month left, I think we may get a few more in.

I propose we allow the .308 Springfield Mag, AKA the 30-06.

Or, how about eliminating the mag requirement and design an '06 only shoot?  The 270 Win, 280 Rem, 25-06, and any other '06 based case would qualify?  There ought to be plenty of potential shooters with that one.

We might loose our judge if we went with these rules. I am up for it for the next shoot.

Kingpin proposed and wanted, a shoot off between 300 win mags only.  We couldn't get enough interest, except to open it to other mags, first other 300 mags, then to let in 7mm, then 264 mag.  We have opened it up to pretty far already, 257 mag and on up, as long as it's considered a "mag".

I would be game for a long action only, shoot later in year, or a "Deer" Rifle shoot, 6mm CF and up shoot later.  How about as long as it's case head is .473 it can be shot, that would open it to the most.
