So many people carry autos for CCW these days. Just wondering how many of you guys that have an auto CCW also have extra clips? and do you always carry and extra clip, never carry and extra or occasionally carry and extra clip??
Just was wondering! |

Bear; I have several extra magazines & rotate their use with the gun. However, I rarely carry the gun and more magazines. I figure that if I can't get outta whatever situation befalls me with the ammo in the gun, I was being particularly stupid at the time. I try not to be stupid. Besides, the current gun holds more than twice the ammo that the revolver I had been carrying held. 900F |

Nope, but they make extra clip pouches for every type. I generally just use the stuff it in my lower back approach and use my back pocket as I'm in and out all day

I carry a .45 and one extra eight round magazine. I carry the .380 I carry three extra seven round magacines. If I carry the 9mm then I get by with one extra 13 rounder for back-up. But since you never know how long it will take for the cavalry to show up, it's best not to start what you can't finish quickly, so I guess the extra ammunition is just so I don't walk in circles.

When I carry my 10mm semi I carry 1 extra 8 round
magazine. When I carry my 10mm revolver I carry 2 extra moon clips of 6 rounds each. When I throw my airweight in my pocket I usually have 1 extra speed loader. bob |

.....funny thinkin about it now.....I have speed loaders for my .357 but never use them, they just sit on the shelf full of defense loads. I use it mainly for bird hunting in the tight thickets and it's great for that, but never had the need for speed when using it for hunting purposes

IBD you are taking the limited recent media definition of "CLIP". Look to any 25 year old catalog, and clip feed 22 rifles are every where. You are taking the position that only stripper clips and M1 enbloc clips are "clips". a device that hjold live rounds of ammo for insertion into a repaeting firearm is a "clip". You also probably believe the Mule myth that revolvers are not pistols, as only auto (loading) hanguns are pistols. Edited by BEAR |

I have speed strips for 38sp, they're easier to slip in pocket/carry, than speedloaders. I also carry 380, as a last ditch backup, no extra mag.

But jsg, I have only seen it in 12 shot. Any grouse I have ever seen will take a load of #12's and come back and flap you to death before they leave. At least that's what Pa grouse will do. Maybe if loaded with # 7's it would be better, and I HAVE bought the shot capsuals and loaded them, but never with anything bigger that 12's. The idea sounds interesting to a quick draw guy, and I sure would like to try it............................Kingpin |

Me and Bear have had this discussion before, but I have been carrying a revolver for the last several years. I don't carry a reload, but I do have more ammo in the house and every vehicle that I might be driving. Not exactly handy, but it is there. Last week I bought a S&W Shield. That is their compact semi auto. I got one in 9mm. I plan on carrying it when I am at work or at home. I think that will be times when it doesn't matter if its a revolver or a semi auto. I will have 8 rounds instead of the 5 I have in a J frame S&W. I don't plan on carrying an extra magazine. I will have extra ammo kinda close by. I will still carry a revolver when I am on the road and in the woods. Wing master |

Actually #6 shot seems to carry best. capsules are available in .429 and .45 as well...(.22) is pretty much worthless

I use to carry some 357 Yellow plastic shot capsules in my Blackhawk, for snakes. Found that when BIG water snakes attacked (and they do believe me and Jimmy Carter on this) the 357 shot cartridges were not stoppers, even at very close range. If hit with the pattern close it would blow off some flesh, but not kill the snakes. When to the 9mm S&W with hollow points and while it might take 2 shots, it cut the head right off (2 pieces of wiggle). Now with a 410 I can kill grouse. the 20 with imp.cylinder seems the best to me. |
