to all -

as you know, one of our members, TimberGhozt, is serving in iraq and in the middle of the real shit over there. he is carrying on a noble tradition going back over 230 years, laying his life on the line in defense of freedom for those who cannot fight for themselves.

he has received many emails and PMs wanting to know what he wants or needs. gene would very much like to relay his thanks to all the members of both the BSB and the HB who have asked for what he needs and who have expressed a desire to do something to help him. in his words, "I appreciate it, my wife and family appreciates it, the civilians' lives I am charged with protecting appreciate it and my brothers who ride the MSRs looking for a fight appreciate it." gene has said that he's pretty much got everything he needs, but a few of us discovered that there is one thing that he really could use to help make sure he and his boys get home safely.

for those who want to do something for him, he needs a good pair binocs to keep with him for spotting IEDs. Gene needs them for countless hours of staring at the sides of the road looking for IEDs - also when they stop to verify that something is indeed an IED rather than trash, which is everywhere. They also just might come in handy for QRF when he is in a position to take out a sniper.

he needs something that will stand up to constant vibration, heat, body sweat on them and other such rough treatment. we've done some research and have determined that a pair of Steiners would probably fit the bill very nicely. here's a link to a web page that will tell you about them:

http://www.steiner-binoculars.com/binoculars/military/milita ry.html

i have ALWAYS been very proud of the fact that the greatest thing separating BSB from the rest of the internet rabble is that WE TAKE CARE OF OUR OWN. in spite of any goofy arguments that we get into over savages, magnums and the threat of methane from cow pies, we pull together when a member is in need.

we all know what is going on over there, and we know that IEDs are the biggest killer of our troops who are engaged in the war on terror. if you've got some spare cash, please consider contributing to this very worthy cause, and show AGAIN that we truly are a family of sportsmen.

anyone interested can PM me here or at the HB, or can email me at deltaforce_iktomi@yahoo.com.

that is all.

gene - my wife hates it when i spend money (although it never stops here from going shopping and buying shoes?), but on this one, she's in full 100% support.

also, my mother asked me to pass along her thanks to you for what you and your boys are doing over there. i know that the times are difficult and that talk is cheap and, but you all have a lot of support!

Fella's;

I can get the Military-Marine 275, but not at $300.00, more like $425.00.

ok, guys - here's the scoop.

to anyone who wants to contribute:

1) if you haven't already, send me a PM (even if you reply to this thread) so that i can keep track of everyone in that venue.

2) i've got an address set up where funds can be sent and collected.

3) when we get enough, the binocs will be purchased and shipped to gene in iraq.

4) if we collect funds that go over the cost of purchasing and shipping, then we will either:

    a) bump up the purchase to a "better" model of equipment

    or

    b) use it got get gene a few other things that might come in handy over there.

any questions, ask them here on this thread or PM me.

thanks to all, and take care -

ron
