I really have 3 10 round mags for the glock and if that
don't work the backup gun is a ruger Alaskan 44 mag with 300 grain hp rounds with 2 speed loaders. Between the two of them I think I can get the job done.

My reasoning is that with the most likely scenario including at least partial darkness and possibly a moving target a pattern would be helpful. The last two would work for "danger close" or running away. DD |

Not really planning on running. My point is. I don't think your average crack head bad guy will get past 8 rounds of .45 ACP. Wing master |

I invested in new magazines. 8 in each magazine and one in the spout of the 1911A1. If that hasn't stopped 'em there is no place left to go.

Glock 19 for me. I have a Kimber compact 1911, but I don't trust it as much as I do the glock.

No luck for me this year as far as moose goes. Maybe next year.
Glad to see this place is still chugging along. Whenever I get the hunting bug I tend to swing by and see what's going on, and I have the hunting bug now in a bad way. Gotta love the first day it is below 80 and I am digging out the gun cleaning stuff and my Benoits hunting video ![]() |

My FIRST choice, when things go bump in the night, is my Rem 870 loaded with #9 shot. I also, pick up a model 65 S&W for a kicker. I doubt seriously that I would ever need the 65 after I use the 870 though.............................Kingpin

King; You poor deluded fool. You live in a zombie area and apparantly don't even know it! Check the web, there are several sites that will educate you about the dangers. These sites are almost universally populated by young urban adults raised by X-boxes & zombie movies who are now experts on the subject. To put it shortly, you're woefully undergunned and have a pitiful amount of ammo. OTOH, with your creds, you could open THE ZOMBIE DEFENSE ACADAMY, and retire in comfort. All the while laughing yourself sick on the way to the bank. Hmmm, east and west campus's, urban and rural curricula, there's money to be made, I'm tellin' ya. 900F |

Sounds like a good idea. I just can't get into odd ball stuff like plastic guns with screwy calibers no matter what tie gun writers claim. For one, they just CAN'T convince me that any one caliber is better than the tried and true calibers that have been around since the 19th and early 20th centuries. These things were created when a lot of things needed killing and worked well. One question that hasn't been asked is, "What if Custer had had a glock at Little Bighorn." I wonder why? No Sir! No one anywhere can convince me that there is anything better for home defense than a shotgun. It comes closer to the fabled "knockdown" than anything currently available and the average plinker can handle it with the ease and accuracy as they need to be. I also mentioned the .357......................................Kingpin

If it fits in a Parabellum chamber the 1935 will digest it rather well. Never had a failure to feed or fire any premium or bargain ammo yet.

KP, I still don't get the birdshot load for your 870. You must have very skinny criminals there. I know y'all live all scrunched together like stalag prisoners, but birdshot? Are you just trying to scare the home invaders? I say this, even though I've been carrying a 380 lately instead of my 45.

I think #9 bird shot it excellent under 20 foot. will put anything on the ground instantly, moderate to sever suffering. No surgical repair possible. and it doesn't shoot thru 2 ply 1/2 dry wall with any authority.

Mule, the idea with the #9's is to minimize damage to my home and to lessen the danger of injuring someone asleep in an adjoining room. 1 1/8 ozs weighs the same no matter what size shot you are using. The thing with the larger shot is that it is possible to blow through walls and maximize damage to your house. #9 shot at 20 feet in a cylinder bore shotgun still holds a tight pattern at normal house distances and acts more like a slug at shorter ranges. If indeed it blows through the intruder, it's lost a LOT of momentum. While #4 shot and larger sizes of buckshot are nice and very effective, I don't care to use them loaded in my house gun because of the possibility of more house damage after the intruder is down............................Kingpin

Well, if it doesn't stop the intruder in his tracks, you may not have to worry about the house damage anymore. Although, I can appreciate the desire to leave your widow with less of a mess to clean up in the wake of your demise. Personally, I don't think I'd bet my life on bird shot. I'll stick to my 00. We're not as populated as you folks back east though.
