does anyone know about or have any first hand knowledge on Zeiss bino's? i have the opportunity to buy a used pair of 8 x 20B's compacts. looks like the best price for new i could find was around $399. what should a used pair in good shape be worth? what would be a good deal? are they basically good for only hunting in thick trees? any opinions or advice would be appreciated.

i don't care for the compacts, regardless of maker. if you want small and light, look to a roof prism 8x40-ish. that's as small as i care to go. pentax sp, bushnell legend, weaver grand slams are where to start your search. |

Hunting is not a matter of life or death; it is much more important than that.

Zeiss, Leica, and Kern are at the top of the heap. Leopolds and Swarovskis come in below them on the list. Look through them ,and see what you think.

Be careful there are a couple of Zeiss counterfits out there. If it is too good to be tru it just misht not be true. Compact are goo, if you are the tye of guy that doesn't carry heavier glass. A good compact glass is much better than no glass. I just got back from bear hunting and as I get older I keep trying to get my pack weight down. But my full size 8x40 B&Ls were in my pack. Binoculars are the last place I save weight. My Zeiss stuff over the years have been very good, especially the mechanical aspects (better than Japanese). I think the japanesse optics are "clearer for me". BEAR |
