Spot;

Well, come out here to Montana & I'll let you sample my .220 Swift.  It's a Ruger #1V with a Burris 6 X 18 A/O target knob on it.  I've had gophers 10 feet up in the aire doin' back flips all the way up & down.  Come once in the summer to shoot dogs & gophers & scout antelope.  Come in the fall to shoot the goats.

Interesting post, lots of opinions!

I used to own a Weatherby Vanguard in 243 Winchester topped with a 3-9 X scope that I used for varmints and a few deer.  Very accurate little thing shooting under 1 inch with almost all ammo I tried.  A factory recall came out for it and my policy is "that's it for me" so I traded it towards a Remington 700 Varmint Laminated Stock in 22-250 Remington.  I put on a Leupold 6-20X Vari-X 3 and that thing is deadly - similar accuracy to Edip's swift, 0.5 inch or less groups.  Also put on a caldwell sitting bipod - cheap but great for varmints.  I would never put that bipod on a big game rifle though - takes way too long to adjust but about $30-$40 cheaper than the Harris.  Didn't get to tinker with it too much as it was nearly turkey season when I got it and spent most my time with that instead of the woodchucks and crows.

I'd like to get another 243, perhaps a Kimber 84 if I can find a deal on one, they tend to be a little pricey!
