Ok it's hot outside 103 in the shade so I'm inside cleaning and working on some rifles. While I'm working on my Tikka in .338 Fed. which I put on the used Leupold 2x7 VX-II on, I just plain old don't understand and here's my confussion.

Ok so all of you that have known me for awhile know that since my run in with Leupold customer service I have sworn off Lupy's. For those of you who don't I'll run it down real quick. Had an M-4 that I thought was foggy and the crosshairs weren't as clear as I thought they should be,also looked at by some friends and compared to theirs they also saw a differance, send it back and Lupy says it's fine and in specs. Sold it the guy that has it now says it ain't bad and can live with it.

So I now have a Lupy in 2x7 that beleve or not I am very pleased with,my son's also gave me as a gift a .44 pistol with a Lupy on it that I'm pleased with. So heres my question or my ponderings. Why would they screw me on a return which for them I would think should be an easy fix and lose a customer to Burris ? It's been well over 20 years since that M-4 and lots of cash thrown at Burris for many scopes. Is Lupy just so darn big they don't care? If my M-4 was as clear as these two I'd most likly have a few Lupy's.  Confussion with corprate folks I guess.

Dunno what the problem is there Tikka.  Never had any customer service dealings with Leupold.  Maybe I'm just lucky but every Lupy I got has always been great - new or used.

Why they won't assist you more is beyond me.  Maybe try talking with somebody else who might be in a cheerier mood.  I know it's not a consolation but getting a hold of somebody who cares or is having a good day will always be more helpful.

No company is a 100% and it does sound like your M4 was teetering on the edge of being ok. Burris of late seems to get more complaints than any of them for customer service. Leupold consistently gets the most praise. I had to return a Burris and had no problem but I think it was wide spread problem with a run of scopes. Figure that nobody is perfect but some or better than others with their customer support and Leupold is considered way better than rest. Of course it sucks when you're the guy in the minority and get the bad service. I wouldn't write them off over that M4 alone.

How old was the Leupold? I have a few old Leupold's that I have sent back for work and they did a good job, however, if you compare the old (reconditioned) Leupolds to a new one there is no comparision. The optics in the last 20 or 30 years have improved so much that a older scope in perfect condition appears fuzzy and dim compared to a new one. In other words if you compared your old scope to anther old scope and it was bad then you probably had a problem, if on the other hand you were comparing old vs new you were comparing apples to oranges.

Hey Russ welcome to the Bait Shop always good for new folks to come on.

This M-4 was bought new over 20 years ago, thats when I had my problem,so at that time was when I was comparing it to models of the same age and some older than mine which was why I thought I give the Lupy a try in the first place.

Tikka;

I had much the same experience with Burris as you had with Leupold.  I'm quite happily making my dollars ignore Burris these days.  What with Burris's current ownership, Beretta, and Beretta's reputation for customer service, I don't expect to see any improvement from my 1999 encounter with Burris's warranty.  And that was when Burris was a U.S. company.

Lately, Nikon has been selling me more glass than anyone.  I'm happy with all of it so far.

I live about 20 miles from the leupold factory.

i have about 6 or 7 leupold scopes. Including 2 of the 2X7s you mention. I have taken a coupe out to the factory for work, and they have allways done me right.

sorry you have a lousey experence with them. there rep is entierly different than that experience.

If it were me, (I know it aint me) I would reconsider. Mabye even call a leupold tech and tell him your story , before you buy your next scope. Tell him That if you are unhappy with it you will ship to him personaly and if he can't make you happy you wan't a refund.

I plan to buy another 2X7 for my old higgins 30,06 and a 3X9 for my .257 Roberts. But my AI will probably get the nikkon monarch 2.5X10...tj3006

"Confusion with corporate folks I guess."

Corporate folks are just "folks', some hardworking others sh$t.  You could have got some guy that was getting ready to be fired.  I do two things: first complain UP the ladder, a call to customer/sales rep...or a manager.  Second, I don't write of a whole companies products because of one idiot, it takes two idiots at an organization to erase a company that I thought of as decent.

By the way I own lots of 2x7 Leupolds, great glass, nice size, and the magnification fits most of my hunting situations as good as if not better than the 3x9x.

I guess I'm getting a better veiw of Lupy, this model 70 I picked while on my sicky vacation has a Lupy 3x9x40 on it with an A/O. I don't know if it's a VXII or what it has 2 gold rings on the front but nothing that says what model it is. But long story short it is as clear as my Burris's and the paralex is really good.

Update on the 2x7 I put on my .338 Federal, works like it should ,it and that Tikka make one very accurate rifle can't wait for gun season to start.

All Luppy with three gold rings and AO are top line scopes.  Usually varX-3.  vx-2 never have A/o.

Good luck with the 338 fed, we await pics of sub moa groupsClap
