I voted for the Win., simply because it is a Mauser. Besides being somewhat old fashioned in my tastes in firearms, the stocking and function just "feels right" to me. I have a few gripes with the quality coming out of current Winchesters, however, the basic design is sound. I guess that's why I keep buying them, although CZ's are looking pretty good to me these days as well. Shoot what you want, just be good with it!!! |

Remington by a long margin. I build for extreme accuracy and as far as factory actions go, the Rem 700 wins hands down for several reasons. Let me first say that I will and have built rifles on all of the major actions so far except a couple brands and all can be worked into extreme accuracy rifles but the Rem is hand down my favorite to use. They are as strong as a bank vault, they will control a case failure or primer leak better them most other actions. You can accurize one to shoot with nearly any aftermarket BR action availiable and for 1/2 the price including machining. They have the fastest lock time available as well as aftermarket striker assemblies to make them even faster. They have the best triggers available in the sport. They have a very quality recoil lug system when an aftermaket recoil lug is used. The main reason I favor Rem 700 actions. I took my 338 Kahn out today for some long range yotes. after the hunt I wanted to check to see how consistant the 300 gr Wildcat ULD is at extreme range. I fired two rounds at a target at a known 1300 yard range. When I drove down to the target I found two clear bullet holes in the loose dirt. 3" apart at 1300 yards. Could other actions be built to do this, sure, but I much prefer the Rem 700 action over all other factory actions. Good Shooting!! Kirby Allen(50) |

Don't know if KP or other have mentioned it. But I like the Rem 700 because it is a tubular action, make from cylindrical steel stock rather than a cast or forging. A cylinder makes it easier to get a true action made, and if it isn't true it is easier to make it true. In addition the cylindrical bottom makes it easier to pillar bed, as a vee block design pillar will self center and return to exactly the same position every time the stock is removed for cleaning, etc. Rem 700 BEAR |

I voted for the Savage....as long as it is the 99. Other favorite actions are the Marlin '94 and the 336/1895 family. As far as one of the bolt actions, I would go with the Mauser 98 and the commercial derivitives. The Swede 96 and M-38 are alright too.

Remington 700, pure and simple.
Many others have outlined the advantages, no point in me repeating. Eagleye.
