ark, That is something to see. I had a similar experience but have no video. My son and I were hunting in a snowsorm on the last day of late Iowa Muzzleloader about Jan. 10 in about 1998. It had been a luckless season for us. As we came out of the woods we looked out in an open field to see an antlerless deer feeding. There was only about 5 minutes of season left and we decided to shoot at the same time to try and collect the deer. My son claims he knew he missed and my shot hit the deer. I was using a .54 caliber Mowrey Ethan Allen with a ML scope. I put a round ball nearly across his throat, punching a perfect round hole in each sides jugular vein. The deer took off running but only made it about 50 yards before it collapsed. When we ran to where it stood there was a bloodswath about 8 feet wide with his tracks right down the center. It was pretty impressive in the fresh white snow. You'd have sworn there'd been 20 deer killed there. RD

This last year I did pull a shot off that caused about the same reaction from the front breast area after being hit with a 100-gr Rem Cor-lock from my .243 Winchester. Using a link here so those that don't want to see graffic blood don't have to look. http://img485.imageshack.us/my.php?image=jons2005doe6vs.jpg This was shot on the very last day of our season here so it was either sex whitetail. After she was hit, she staggard around and dropped. |
