what are some of your favorites?
my current would be the 6.5/06. i wish to hell that they would legitimize this one and make it available commercially (both the rifle and the ammo)

Hey Ron >> With the cartridge you mentioned, if you're interested, my bro has a JGS 6.5-06 AI reamer that he's used to make himself one darned accurate rifle. You might like that one, too.
.358 STA is one of my current favorites. Don't know for sure if it's still considered a wildcat, but with all the fireforming involved and cost of dies, it's got all of the characteristics of one . Lots of odd ball stuff out there interests me. Not enough $$$ to enjoy it all. We'll start with the STA and go from there. Later. >> klallen

At present I own 3 wildcats, a 6.5-06, a 30 Gibbs and a 30-338. Can't say too much about the Gibbs, since it is a recent acquisition, but sure like the 6.5-06 and the 30-338. Never could figure out why Winchester didn't just legitimize the 30-338 instead of developing and releasing the 300 Win mag, but that's the way things go. The 6.5-06 is a dandy hunter, super accurate and just a little more muscle than the 6.5x55 without being a terror on barrels. Mine will do very close to 3000 with the 140 and H1000. I like it so much I am contemplating having a 6.5/284 built [ballistic twin in a long action], mostly for long range competition. Regards, Eagleye.

My favorites are two I've built. I have a 25-284 and and a 25WSM. not WSSM, WSM. Be easier to form brass now the 270 WSM is out. The next one will probably be in the .30 cal area.

I have been talking to my gunsmith about a .257 STW for quite a while now. I dont think barrels would last very long but it might be good for long range antelope.

25 Souper, or 25-08, or a 25/.243. Just run a .243 case over a .25 caliber expander and you have it. I'm going to build one on a Model 7 that I have. I'm expecting .257 Roberts +P performance from a short action. From articles I've read, it will be easy to achieve. 100 gr at 3200+ and 115 gr at 3000. What a great little cartridge.

Wingmaster, the .25 STW would definitely be a "yellow pages" number. Might not be as tough on barrels as you think. Keep it clean, and cool and you should be fine. My dad's old M-70 Westerner has about 2000+ rds. through it since '62 and cleanliness and cooling have kept it in fine shape.
You could use 125 grainers as well!!

Thanks Orion,
This kinda got me to thinking about this project again. It would take me a long time to shoot 2000 rounds.

My second centerfire, in '65 I think, was an Arisaka that I had reamed to 6.5x57, glass bedded, and Timney trigger (this took a few years to get done.) The 'smith who mounted the scope base said it was a good action, the steel that is, and I didn't know enough to worry about it anyway. I've still got it, and it's probably about #3 on my favorites list ... well, maybe #2 ... that 25-06 is a sweet shooter.... But the 6.5 has a 7-1/2 twist near as I can figure, and spits Nosler 140's where I'm looking. It's been the break-in rifle for two of my kids, and I think it will see #3 this fall. He just passed Hunter's Ed last Sunday.
Same as a 6.5x257 Roberts, I've also heard it called a 264 Spencer. I use +P brass now.
