Maybe you've got a sap of some kind that is coming to the surface.  Might be tasty to a furry little creature.  Other than that, I've no clue  >>  klallen

This deck and railing are at LEAST 10 years old. Pressure treated lumber, wouldn't think any sap would be oozing - possible though. It made for an interesting pic I though!

Could be mineral salts in the perservatives, or sap gettin disolved and runnin through the wood to that point where it seeps out?

OR it could be one nutty squirrel !!!!!

Hell of a subject title.

The CCA (copper chromated arsenic) is not attractive to animals at all. I would guess he is licking some type of spill on the wood. Beer, soda, BBQ sauce, etc.

You sure a female of the species wasn't in heat and rubbed her rump around on that thar post. The third pic has a much larger area as if he kinda lost control of himself.

EDip,

I like the way you think, I think. The second pic does look a little provacative when you think of it that way.

Nothing has been spilled or wiped there that I know of, I was walking by the window and couldn't resist capturing the image for all to see!
