HUNTING ACCESS ENHANCEMENT PROGRAMS
For the 2006 hunting season, hunters will have access to nearly 9 million acres of land statewide through the Block Management Program administered by Fish, Wildlife & Parks. The program assists landowners in managing hunting activities on lands under their control, and provides hunters with public hunting access to private and isolated public land free of charge. Hunters interested in learning more about lands enrolled in the Block Management Program should contact the regional FWP office in the area where they plan to hunt. For the 2006 hunting season, FWP will have available, free of charge, three booklets, called Hunting Access Guides, which contain specific information about lands enrolled in Block Management. One Hunting Access Guide will contain information about Regions 1, 2, 3, 4, and 5, while separate Hunting Access Guides will be published for Region 6 and for Region 7. A hunter can obtain a Hunting Access Guide for the FWP region where a hunt is planned either by calling or stopping in person at an FWP office, or by ordering one through the FWP website at fwp.mt.gov on the Hunting page. Maps for specific Block Management Areas can only be obtained from the FWP offices in the specific region where the BMA is located. In FWP Regions 6 and 7, maps can be obtained only from the BMA site or from a landowner when permission to hunt the BMA is obtained. The regional Hunting Access Guides also contain information about other hunting access opportunities, including contact information for state and federal land management agencies like the U.S. Forest Service, Bureau of Land Management, U.S. Fish & Wildlife Service, and Department of Natural Resources and Conservation. Regional FWP office staff can also help hunters identify hunting opportunities made available through other FWP programs or projects. Look on the FWP web site at fwp.mt.gov on the Hunting page under "Hunting Access" for more information including: access tips and links to other agencies and programs; Block Management information; and downloadable FWP publications with information on pursuing hunting opportunities on public and private land throughout Montana. For local access information, hunters may also call the nearest FWP regional office. · Northwest--Kalispell Region 1 406-752-5501 · West-central--Missoula Region 2 406-542-5500 · South-central--Bozeman Region 3 406-994-4042 · Central-Great Falls Region 4 406-454-5840 · East-central--Billings Region 5 406-247-2974 · Northeast--Glasgow Region 6 406-228-3700 · Southeast-Miles City Region 7 406-234-0930 |
