Well my first yr. hunting with the 348. Went hunting high country mulies in the Mtns. North of Goldbrige. On my 3rd. day had the luck to spot a nice 4X3. Well after about 20 min. I got around 175 yds away wind right in my face. The buck was walkin slow behind mostly 6-7 ft pines. spruce. Figuring my chance was now I let rip a 200 gr. Hornady. Well mr. buck took off and I let fly one more and that was the end of it. Got some good pics and will post them later. Also, was chased by two big wolves and saw a wolverine...nice trip. Anyway Selway Packer guess I am a member of the club now eh!

Good job!  You fellers sure like stretchin' the range on the ol' 348.  Did you use open sights?  I cain't 'member how you dressed 'er out.  Why the 200?  Thort you was sold on the 250 Barnes.  Anyhoo, congradulations.  I'll smoke another cuban in honor of yer buck.

Open sights for sure.!  Thought the 250. might be more of an elk or moose round so I took the hornady's. Will post some pics later but  dressed it went at least 250 lbs.

BTW my partner had a new 300 WSM 3-9 loopy and he was impressed...he could not find the deer in his scope after I bino. it

175 strechin it well man it had plenty of juice left. Tell that to Sel  he beat me with 220 or so on an elk. Also, used ME's little knife to dress my deer worked good but think it is a bit too flexy for anything larger.

ME#'s lil' knife works good for gettin' the ivories outta a bull, I found.  Won't handle elk skin very good, but frees up thet butthole like it were made for it!  250 is a big deer.  You got big deer in them hills?  Is it crawlin' with hunters like 'round here?  Ain't been a animal of any kind saw in this valley for weeks.  Way too many roads, an' even the rough ones are accessible by ATV.  Damn things didn't open up opportunities for folks, jus' ruint it for everbody.  Next week I'll pack in a ways to get a look at some decent deer country.  Jus' a bedroll, coffee pot, an' a couple nags.

250 is a big deer! I have never shot past 50 yards, so i wouldnt know what 175 is like with open sights! WOW. I was thinking about getting the Browning 71 carbine, but i think it is a tad too much money. Thinking more along the lines of a Ruger #3 in .45-70 instead . Good job BC

I told ya the 348 was a thoroughbred, BC... I told ya!  I won't be callin' your M71 a "virgin" no more.  I knowed you was going to put a notch on 'er.  You got the proven skills and character of a 'dyed in the wool' 348 man.  You're welcome in my elk camp anytime... even if I has to pull your Morgan up the mountain.

You hunting moose with that '71 this year?

Funny a guy offered me 2000 Can for my rifle. 1200 us. Did not even blink saying NO!

Yore "live'n proof", thet ya don't need one'a them modern high-tech scopes when yore "HUNT'N",.... 'stead'a "snipe'n"

I reckon you need a real knife, fer butcher'n/skin'n critters,.... 'stead'a one'a them liddle "fillet'n knives"!!

Thanks Rondo  Just got a call from the ex.. saying she picked up a package from Wyoming.. Thank -you in advance but will post a bit later. It was pretty cool going toe to toe with a new 300WSM and the outcome was 348 did the job.

ME's knife was ok.. I had her good and sharp, but was a little small and flexy for I reckonin anything bigger.

Well I guess I will be sendin some jerky, gotta go get bullwinkle first if not deer jerky .

   Thanks Rondo. will talk later.

PS wierd sleeping in camp never went above freezing for 7 days and last night in my big warm bed did not sleep half as well. Go figure.
