Since 1967, I've killed over 100 'lopes with .243 using various loads.  None of them got away.

I used one of them plastic tipped Horadys last year.  130 grainer.  It blew up on a lope RIB at 306 yds!

I voted for the .25/06 even though I do not have one. I'd just have to grab my .270 and some Federal premiums if the two aforementioned  "babes" said "Grab it and lets go big boy." If I was setting up a rifle for the express purpose of whackin' goats it'd be a .25/06 without a doubt. I also consider the 6mm Remington to be a strong second place contender too. In a properly set up rifle, either will do what you need to do at ranges that still make sense.AW

Hey N.H.,,when the 30/30 first came out it moved a 160 gr. slug at about 1970 fps,,,Teddy Roosevelt took a '94 winchester in 30/30 on a pronghorn hunt,,took a shot as the goat whirled, the slug entering the ham, ranged forward, exited the throat-patch,,at a MEASURED 229 yards!!!growin' up in montana,,i mean,,,MONTANA,,I knew any number of old timers that could and did take prongers well passed 200,,so don't laugh at the idea at doin' prongers with a 30/30,,I like a '94 win. with a 28'' bbl and a tang sight,,but in 38/55,,and if I can do it with it to 255 yds.,,hitting with a 30/30 is a walk
what if we're all fools and none of it matters??,,and the hokey-pokey IS what it's all about!!!!

Hey Bear,,put a tang sight on it to give you the elevation or sight a scoped gun to 3 1/2" @ 100 and she will hit at 250 about -6",,the slug will whistle on thru and let the daylight in and you can sharpen your knife,,in the '94XTR BIGBORE,the .375 is my favorite levergun round,,much easier to hit with at longISH range than the bigger slugs ,,N.H.,the 30/30 is very do-able on deer size game to 250,,if YOU  can do it

I've thought of that.  i've got a tang sight on my '92 winchester, great.

But it is a federal offense to put a tang sight on a Marlin.  That is where the serial number is, and the tapping destroyes the number.  My Marlins are old pre-safety models.  i believe that marlin changed the number placement on the later models.

Roundballs, antelope and area 444.

Well, I've killed antelope with round balls, both in rifles and smoothbores, plus with pistols. And this is in wide open country where sneak and peek is at a premium. Not at all impossible, you just have to be a patient and cautious hunter. We have ranches open to us hunting with ML traditional where other hunters aren't allowed, because of the spray and pray method of shooting.

TAS, I done made a south-central Texas dumb do-do!!!!!  I voted for the 25-06---I plumb done over-looked the 6.5-06!!!!!!!  Never in my life-time did I think the 6.5-06 would be listed in a poll!!!  So if you can remove my dumb-vote for the 25-06(excellent cartridge BTW) and replace it with a vote for the 6.5-06, I would be appreciative.  My sweet little '03 custom Springfield, 24" Douglas XX barrel is really glaring at me---sorry darlin'!

i like the way you party! will definitely have to get down to texas one of these days!

sounds like you do a bit of cooking, perhaps? if you got any favorite recipes, be sure to post thme in that section!

as for the 6.5/06, i've pretty much settled on it for my rifle project. the action will be an MRC m1999, the barrel will probably be MRC as well, unless i can find a way to justify the extra 100-150$ for a lilja, and the stock will be an accurate innovations "golden hunter." should be PERFECT for "western" hunting applications!
