I decided I want a scope on my Mini-14 Ranch.  I hardly ever shoot the little rifle, and that's because I don't feel that comfortable with the open sights.  With a scope I'll definitely take the mini to the range a lot more.  And if I have the chance will use it for yotes out to at least 100 yards.  Might be close up work though.

I want a scope that is light and small.  Two scopes I'm interested in are the Leupold VXII 1-4x20 and VXII 2-7x33.  Even the 1-4 seems big for the mini, being just over 9"s long.  The 2-7 at 11"s is even larger, especially with the 33mm objective lens.  That 33mm lens also might interfere with the little raised spot on the top handguard.  Any Mini-14 owner knows that spot, that holds the spring/clamp for the handguard.  I've held a couple of my scopes over the mini, and the ocular end always falls right over that bump.    One other scope I like is the Leupy 4x33.  Might be to much fixed power if the action gets up close though.

I looked at a lot of other brand scopes but these seem to be what I want.  Light and small with very good glass.

I don't really want to put a small red dot sight on it either.  I have one and it's worked well on a 9mm carbine out to 75 yards, but I want a traditional scope.

I'm wondering what some of you might have used on your mini's.  Or what scopes you might like to put on one.

Don't have a mini-14 but if I did, my choices would probably be yours and I'd also consider a 4X fixed.  Dunno why, just seems like that's the best fit for what I'd do with it.  Of all them I'd say the 1-4 or 4 X would get my vote.

My dad's mini-30 has a Leupold 2.5x and it is a match made in heaven. It is extremely compact, and has the golden ring

NH,  Does he have the 2.5x20 that's the shotgun/muzzleloader type.

Or is it the 2.5x28 I.E.R. Scout scope?

I'm thinking it's the first one.  The 75 yard parallax setting on that one might not be bad.  After all, the rife will be used for close range work mostly. 100 yards and less.
