I never noticed, but my short action 308 is also a long action.
I got a replacement stock and noticed is I got a long action bottom plate a long action 3006 mag fits perfect and 2506 loaded shells feed right up. Cool. I'm now on the prosses changing it to a 6mm 06 AI.
Who knew?

Yep, Savage 110 actions are are all long.  they just block the magazine and add a longer bolt stop[.  Same as m70 Winchester.

I noticed that too. I have one in .223 and the action looks 30-06 length.
I have always considered myself to be quite the bullshitter, But ocasionally it is nice to sit back and listen to a true professional......So, Carry on.

6mm-06 AI is an interesting cartrige.

What weight bullets are you going to use and how fast are they going?

Be good to have a 26 inch barrel...lots of powder, small bore volume.

I have been thinking a lot about getting a Savage Axis (cheap at Walmart) and a prefit barrel but I'm having a hard time deciding on a cartridge. A 6mm-06 or a 6.5-06 might be something I could use.

Would a 6.5-06 need a 26 inch barrel?

It would utilize more of the power.

The 6-06 isn't going to be an improvement on you 244/5mm Remington.  Bore is just to small to burn more powder.

6.5-06 loaded hot wil be somewhat is an improvement over the Swed, more powder to burn in a 26 inch barrel.

just thoughts.

Thanks D.

Good point Bear. 6.5-06 would probably kinda overlap with the Swed. Maybe not enough difference to justify a different rifle.

I think a significant increase as  it has 11 grs of H20 larger case.  10 grains of powder..more velocity, if you have the barrel to burn it.
