about 20 years ago I gave up on all rubber boots.  the leather waterproof were very good and WAY more comfortable to walk in.  If it is cold, the felt Lined packs are my choice.

But I'm planning a fall trip were I will be in heavy growth and some water, especially with rain.  wool socks will handle the cold so no great insulation is necessary

so I'm thinking of an all rubber boot, 12 to 14 inch height. prefer Made in USA.  I don't want an aggressive mud holding sole, just some large cross ribs.  I have a tough to fit 8 1/2 EE with a very high instep.

Any thoughts?  I use to buy Lacrosse but they are lower quality China goods today.

any and all thoughts greatly appreciated.

Bear,

I prefer Gortex boots. They are kinda like the water proof leather you mentioned. More comfortable and dry.

I work in a car wash so water proof is good. I am on concrete for 10 hours a day so comfort helps too.

Just my opinion.

Muck Boots make a decent rubber boot. It was a shame when LaCrosse went to China. They used to have the most pliable materials.

Why not just get a pair of rubber overboots to wear over your reg boots.  They are fairly cheap and light.  I used to use them quite a bit when I did construction, your feet stay a lot drier and blister free too.  You should find them at farm supply place or construction supply house.

one brand was "Tingley"  but they are a thin rubber and grip/tread might not be so great
I like leather w/gortex boots BUT it is damned tuff to fine any boot made in the USA anymore....even most Redwings are china made now.........

I've used the stretch over boots when hunting Caribou in northern Quebec, they are pretty good.  But I was looking for more than the 10 inches of the stretch overboot, and with bad fingers those overboots can be tough to grip and pull on, maybe more finger exercise is needed.

When I worked in the mines, I had great rubber miner boots, I actually made them my winter hunting boots, perfect fit.  I think they cost me $12 and had steel toes.  they lasted about 25 hard years (no tread) when the rubber fatigued, Made in the USA.

Hey Bear

You have got to try on a pair of Muck Boots,Woody Max are the good ones for back here, all day comfort. Not heavy but good and solid and comfort is really off the charts. The Woody Max is the warmest of the line, check them out,I think you'll be impressed. Take it from someone who could never stand rubber boots.
