Well, that $300 clearance M70 I got this spring finally got some trigger time. and it has THE worst trigger I've ever used bar none. I cannot get it to adjust better at all, about 10 #'s and 3 inches of creep. But, I found a combo of 150 Speer Grand Slams and WXR that nets under half for 3 every time, but the 4th shot opens it to 1,  and the fifth about 1.25. The problem is that it will only be for hunting and I'm not smart enough to stop at 3 shots.......The only actual problem is that I'm such a runt, the synthetic stock and tire-rubber-pad beats me up pretty good, but I got over it after a few tears..........lol.......

BTW, that's with the OE Simmons 3-9 it came with, hopefully soon to be swapped with a burris FF2 if I get the cash yet this year...IF...

Just an el-cheapo wally world special, 300 win mag, push feed, plastic injection molded stock, solid hard rubber pad, with Simmons 8 point in the worst mounts ever, for $300. Not sure of a specific model, but it seems to shoot. The only thing I did was swap with redfield standard bases and mounts, and attempt to adjust the creepy trigger, which other than the spring, is more like a Savage trigger than what I've seen Win's to be. I defineately want to put a new recoil pad on, one that works a little would help, and maybe eventually a Boyd's lam in pepper. But, she'll hunt just fine this year if not. I'll toss up some pics tomorrow if i get a chance.

One unfortunately often gets what they PAY for- gun makers are all now coming out with cheap im's of what were good guns must be cause of cheap imports. Me i save and then get a decent gun- they work in most all conditions and weather.

Widux, I've been meaning to ask you, where abouts are you located? I'm by pardeeville, about 30 miles north of Madison.

As to the M70, yes it is a cheap gun, that's the only reason I got it. I got it just for beat around hunting use, and other than a crappy trigger that at least 75% of all other guns also come with, and a piss poor recoil pad, I'm not complaining. Actually, reading through my sarcasm hopfully shows I'm pretty happy to have a 300 mag that groups 3 into 1/2", I could care less about shots 4 and 5, If I need that many shots in the field I think I need to re-think my game plan. I must also add, I would never want a gun that WOULDN'T work in all conditions or weather, but I think its hard not to meet that criteria.

BKC;

I'm happy with the Pachmyer decelerator's I've got on two guns, the .30-06 & the .338.  I've also heard a lot of good said about the Limbsaver's, but haven't experienced anything first hand.  And then I'd have to do a back-to-back comparison with the same ammo.

I'f you'd just haul yourself down to Virginny, you could probably solve a number of those problems with the gun - - - - - if you could stay sober enough to build the BBQ.

bkcorris--I'm over near Sparta in Melvina--moved here from Alaska in 98 after 25 yrs there. You got geese over by you?? I only use my 300 for big game and my 06 for deer --going today to look at new 270-Browning lever- wife has auto and bolt but i like lever for deer here and pigs in Tejas. Give a holler some time if you get over this way- I'm just off I-90 exit 25.

BK, all due respects, but the recoil of your .300 shouldn't be judged with shooting it off the bench. Lots of guys are intimidated by recoil off the bench, not that it isn't justified, just a matter of point. If you stand and shoot it (barring the horrendous trigger) felt recoil isn't such a big deal. To duplicate the recoil when you are standing, it is recommended that you sight in standing, using the roof of a car or something similar in height to zero it. I have done it many times, though not from the roof of my car. Your .300 is a wise choice as it is about the max that anyone would need, generally, in North America...........Kingpin

Widux.....I'm not to far from Horicon marsh, right on the western edge of the zone, geese flock by the thousands in the fall once corn gets cut.  I'm not big on waterfoul hunting though, just never tripped my trigger so to speak.

King, for an update, due to massive flinching and mis fires due to the trigger I HAD to do something. After some tuning and playing, I finally got the trigger pretty decent, but it took replacing the OE spring with one of which the origin will never be told I swear the OE spring was a coil spring from a Geo Metro or something.  It breaks just under 4 pounds and is pretty crisp. The pad on it is hard solid rubber, it has a manageable recoil offhand/standing and would be fine for hunting, but I still want/need a better pad to do any amound of shooting with it.
