For the last 8 years I've been hunting with a Schrade +  SS-1 "made in the USA".  I liked them so much I bought two, great hunting knife.

The one I'm carrying in my gutting outfit has cleaned 8 deer and the blade was getting dull.  Ran it on my diamond EZ-lap and it cam right back.

Thought maybe I could buy an extra blade for my outfit (1 oz).

Surprise to me.  SCHRADE IS OUT OF BUSINESS.  Schrade was the larges producer of knives in the US.

Like everything we will just have to learn to enjoy the Jap, China, Korean stuff.  And hopefully when our grandchildren turn 26 and save their money from flipping burgers, they can buy an AMERICAN made Schrade used on E-bay.

Schrades made in Ellenville,NY can still be found on ebay in fact after the plant closed I bought quite a lot of schrades .The company was sold, now all Schrades are made by the Taylor Knife Co in China and are much less expensive, don't have any knowledge about the quality but they look the same.

I have 2 knives like the 2nd one Sir North posted. One with the grip like his and the other with a nice set of simulated ivory (maybe). Really like the knives. Hold their edge well.

Well, BUCK Knives is located in a western state ie Oregon or Washington and they have products made in China...............so where the headquarters is located don't necessarily mean all product is made there so you never know.

Ka-bar and Cutco knives are made in Olean New york.  they have a visitor center in front of the factory.  Been there.

I though this was interesting.

How KA-BAR Got Its Name

Soon after its introduction in the mid-1920's, the KA-BAR trademark became widely known and respected. There have been many versions of how the KA-BAR name came to be, but all evidence points to a letter received from a fur trapper. This particular fur trapper's testimonial turned out to be the most significant ever received by the company.

He wrote, in very rough English, that his gun had jammed and that he had therefore relied on his knife to kill a wounded bear that was attacking him. In thanking the company for their quality product the trapper described using his knife to kill the bear. All that was legible of his scrawled writing was "k a bar". The company was so honored by this testimonial that they adopted this phrase and used it as their trademark, KA-BAR.

Irish Bird Dog: The Buck Knife Company moved from Kalifornia to northern Idaho about 5 years ago.

The reason for the move was MUCH publicized - and was attributed as being for tax reasons and to avoid oppressive state regulations!

Idaho is much more tax friendly to business than is Kalifornia.

The town the Buck Company is now located in is POST FALLS, Idaho.

I drive by the factory (visible from I-90) many times each year. I have been told they have a wonderful door buster sale at the factory ONCE each year.

I have not as yet made it to the sale but plan on doing so ASAP.

Shameful that some of our industries must move over-seas or to more tax friendly states!

That has to be expensive - let alone the loss of jobs in the original locales!

Hold into the wind

VarmintGuy.

I have a Buck 110 that I have been using primarily for game cleaning, deer, elk, birds, small game for nearly 40yrs and it still functions great..... another is the Buck Special for camp/general cutting chores etc.  I carried that old 110 so much/often that I literally wore out the original leather sheath...then...at the  1994 NRA convention, Chuck Buck traded me 3 new sheaths for that old one....a black leather just like it, a brown leather (new test color for them) and a black nylon sheath. He said he wanted to take that old one back to show the "boys" at the factory.
