I've seen some grouse while deer hunting and next time I go I'm taking my little 1300.  I have some boxes of 2&3/4" shells in both #7 1/2 and #6.  Anyone have a preference as to which size to use?

I haven't shot this gun for a few months and I might get out today to see how both loads pattern.  The last time I shot it I was using slugs and buckshot.  These light loads should be a pleasure compared to them.   Thanks, Gunrunner

Gunrunner;

My 20 is my favorite grouse shotgun.  Seven point fives are perfectly acceptable, but more depends upon the cover than anything else IMHO.  Tight, thick, cover, no long shots possible, take the denser pattern of lighter shot.  Open areas, the 6's should work well if shots are commonly beyond 25 yards.

Of course, here in the rocky mountain west, we are allowed to use rifles also.  Which, for practical purposes, means the .22 lr.  The way we like to hunt is in pairs.  One with the shotgun, the other with a .22.

Thanks CB.  I'm going to go with the #6.  Both loads patterned well, but my shots might be on the long side, so 6 it is.

I use 6's and we have all dense cover. I guess that is just personal preference. Remington Expresses. Been using them for 6 years now. Hasn't let me down yet!
