I told you all about my disastrous vacation but i want some ideas on how to patch my boat up for the time being so i can get some use out of it till i can get it in for a proper repair. Im a welder by trade but i dont have any tig welding equipment or aluminum wire feed welding equipment to do it myself. Can i fibreglass a patch over everything to get me out on the water a couple more times or does someone have a better idea?

I would get some sheet aluminum or galvanized steel and rivet it over the hole. I'd use a good marine sealant around the edges, stick on the patch and rivet away.

gary: i have seen a patch kit somewhere for boats. it a stck that you hit with a torch and it welds up the hole. ive seen it done in a demastration once. you heat up the boat where it needs to be fixed with the torch then start to rub this weld stick around and it fills in the hole. if i can find out more ill send it to you.

If you don't mind send it to me as well. My son and I are working on a project boat, and it has a crack where the engine mounts on, that I would like to fix. Seems like I can do this.

I think I'd just put the best permanent patch on it now.

i'd get the aluminum sheet metal and some aAL rivets and just start drilling and pounding.

A temp patch just will not be satisfactory and you could be using the time to make a permanent repair.
