The wonders of modern technology I have a 04 Kawasaki 700 Prairie. Nice V-twin power, but detuned a bit for the sport/ute machine. I bought a simple replacement cid box. Unplug three connectors and swap it out. The old unit maxed out at 28 degrees advance at 4000 rpm held that till 6500 rpm then drops fast till it hits the stock rev limiter of 8500 rpm. The new cdi advances to 33 degrees and hits its peak at 3800 rpm and holds it till 9200 rpm. Before, from a dead stop, WOT (wide open throttle) would pull the wheels in high range a bit but drop fast. Low range it'd pull them a bit easier. After plugging in the new unit and letting it warm up I went up to the frontage road, stopped, and of course gave it the WOT for the first test in high range, the result being I lost all site of the road, came damn close to a good road rash and finally set the front down a good twenty yards down the road. I rate it a pucker factor of 8.9. It is absolutely the easist performance mod I've ever done for any thing I've owned The doc said I could ride if I "take it easy" so I think I'll wrap a mile of tape around the wrist with a few splints and give it a try. As much as I love guns and hunting, nothing is as enjoyable as the motor sports.------------- last in line for the nobel peace prize. first in line for pie Charter Member of the Round Earth Society |
