Well I got one on this new scope.

My first impression was... shit those tick marks are small, probably won't be usefull.

Once I got the scope on the rifle they look bigger, hmm.....

I won't be able to tell until I get these things on a good load at the range.

Spot,

Just some thoughts

With the advent of laser range finders I see no practical use for these things.  I got my first multi ret. scope as a custom Unertel scope in 1963, still have it.  I've found the more distractions in a scope the more chance to have human error.  And over the years they have caused me to make errors and miss.  If you know the range from a quick laser sight, you can easily find the hold over on long range shots.  If you can't estimate the hold-over inches accurate enough, the shot is way to long for the shooter.  In those cases the target knobs and a reference guide taped to the stock are the only solution.

Especially important in hunting were  game will often be shot at close range where the dots, bumps, tappers and lines are only adds to confusion.

Bear,

The B&C is set up much like a mil dot.

200 yd zero, 300 yd impact point is the next tick, 400 next, 450 last, then 500 at the top of the duplex post.  They also made the ticks a specific length for a 10 MPH wind in the form of a triangle so you can guess your windage.

I think they're made to work with a range finder, not to replace them.

Spot,

Do the fixed values of drop change depending upon the power ring setting??????

Bear,

They have two triangles on the power ring one big one small, you set it to your "drop" rate (they have two) and you're supposed to be good.  I haven't tested it yet.

     Pretty neat though.

I like the idea, but I like Burris's Ballistic Plex better. No windage, but less obstructive ticks, and they had it first, well before loopy anyway..... The problem I see with them is people going out with a range finder and using the marks untested. The marks don't line up on the exact yardage for most cartridges, obvious to most of us but not to most others.

Stupid people are like a slinky, they don't serve much purpose in the world but they sure are fun to watch tumble down the stairs!

Bk,

And for the rest of Ya'll who don't know this yet.

Leupold now has a custom shot that will make any reticle with any drop you want.

Now THAT is pretty cool!  Cost is $200 bucks.

Spot,  I hope you can set up some targets at 300 and 400, and maybe farther, and try it out.  It'll be interesting to see your results.

Exactly which scope did you get?

I think that the guys at Premier-Reticle have been licensed reps to do that work for some years now Spot.  And they are lots cheaper.  They are a good place to buy Leupold scopes and they will customise it to what ever your wishes, and it keeps the warranty.

One of the guys from there use to post here and non shooters.  Lots of good informationthere.

I have the B&C reticle on a 2.5X8 that sits on my .270. I have not played with it much but my intention is to finalize a deer load for this year and then begin to test it.  One thing I think you gotta wonder about is even if it works perfectly at the range where you are shooting more or less flatt, how much faith can you put on it if you are shooting up or down hill...tj3006
