Fella's;
As some interest has been expressed, the Great Falls 2005 Gopher Shoot will be April 29/30 & May 1st this year.
I will start making some arrangements this week & updating info as I go. However, there are some 'in stone' rules.
NO HANDGUNS ARE ALLOWED ON THE PROPERTY I SHOOT AT. Absentee owner's rule, nothing to be done about it.
Twenty-two's only please. Both rim & centerfire allowed, but centerfire may not be shot within about 200 yards of the ranch house. Simple noise/polite ratio here.
Great Falls has scheduled air service through NorthWest & Delta. Interstate 15 goes thru town also.
People driving in from the southeast are advised that leaving I-90 at Billings & proceeding from Billings to LaVina, Harlowtown, Eddy's Corner & G.F. is the shortest route in on good paved two-lane. But if you want scenic mountains & twisty roads, leave I-90 further west & turn north at the junction of I-90 & 89. Proceed to White Sulpher, turn right at the tee, go 'bout 2 miles east & then turn north on 89 again & top the Little Belt mountains.
This route takes you through Neihart & Monarch to Armington jct. Turn left at Armington & get lost in Belt. Go to Belt Brew Pub for directions. Get detailed directions, this may take some time. On the way into town from Belt note the BAR-S on the right. Best steaks in (sorta) town. You'll enter Great Falls on 10th Ave South coming in from the east.

Yup, the .22 mag's are not a problem. If you get a deal on ammo, bring plenty.

Fella's;
Good news, bad news. The state Women's bowling tourney is in town the same weekend. Anybody who knows they are coming & wants to move it up a weekend, say so real soon now.
Consequently, rooms are tight. The Townhouse Inn will give us a rate of $50.00 per night. However, they will be smoker rooms. They will ozone treat them for us & say they have no problems with non-smoker complaints after the process. I've told them probably 3 to 6 rooms.
There is also a possibility that the spring gun show will be the same weekend. If the sun shines, I'm goin' shooting, but if it rains, well there is that alternative.
I'm also working on 'safe' storage for member's firearms while they are here. I'm in the business, so shouldn't be much of a problem.
As more members come in with hard dates, I'll try & arrange at least one evening meal together. Bar S for steaks, BBQ in my backyard, or any other ideas, chime in please.

Well count me IN, I won't need a room but I can only make it to Sunday's shoot. (Work thing)I think a BBQ would be great, but there again I go to bed early 9:00 pm( I get up at 1:00am on Monday's) If you need to move it up go for it no problem with me."D"

from experience in the hotel biz, i can vouch for those ozone machines. it won't be perfect, but it won't be horrible, either.

I found rooms at the Holiday Inn Express in GF. Is that too far away? I stay at so many Hiltons and Holiday Inn's that I have enough frequent stayer points to stay for free. They said the regular rate is $79. if anyone is interested.

I'll cost me 370 to fly...
OUCH..
Hell for that price I can have you guy's drive me down a PD so I can shoot it. LOL.
Or go to Western KS and pay 100 to shoot them all day. I did get a referal from max but it wouldn't be right if he wasn't with me.
Hell I may never get to shoot a PD, guess I'll have to stick with coyotes.

Spot, If your car gets 20mpg it'd only cost $253 to drive round trip from Olathe, KS to Great Falls, MT. 2600mi divided by 20mpg mutiplied by $1.95 per gallon. Just saved you over $100 now you don't have an excuse.

Look at all the stuff going on that I'm gonna miss. Womens bowling. Gunshow. Shooting. BBQ.
That's a bit further than I want to drive, and my car gets 30 mpg when I keep the speed down.
If I find out the women bowlers are going to be at the BBQ I might change my mind.

Been a few days since I've been online - dang work thing again
At this point, for the cost and time, it doesn't look like I'll be able to make it. Too many obligations unfortunately.
The desire is DEFINITELY there. Something may fall through but pretty doubtful.

I'm in. I hope. Maybe. If the wheels stay on. Any campgrounds in Belt so we can have a BSB campfire? I was there last spring, backroading over towards Geraldine but can't remember if I saw anything touristy.

Eddy;
Belt is about 23 miles in the wrong direction. It's close to our property, for coyote poppin', but dang few gophers out that way. However, to answer your question, yes, there is at least one commercial campground in the area of Belt. Not sure on forest svc. campgrounds, & the one's I do know about are much further away.

I for got where did you say we could shoot? If there is any "State" land nearby we could stay on it and camp for up to 14 days. I'm not shore about a fire( this year any way) but "ANY" state trust land is open to camping( leased or not!)

Duh. I looked at the directions in the first message and got the idea the shoot was around Belt or Geyser. So it's actually near GTF someplace. Doh.

Where I expect we'll be shooting is very near Cascade Montana, about 23 miles south of Great Falls on I-15. The spring gun show is the same weekend, for sure. I will have safe storage for firearms.
I am working on getting a p-dog town also. Nothing as yet, don't count on it, but I'm trying.

I'm so excited I went out practicing to day( sniping gophers at 150 yards) It was way windy but we did manage to get some. I was using my "BIG" gun but it was great fun.

THINGS HAVE CHANGED. Nobody from out of Montana can make it fer sure, fer sure. Therefore, I have to commit to the gun show. After all, those of us in-state guys can get together pretty much any time in whatever size group(s) work.
Anybody that does want to go gopher shooting is invited to get in contact with me via PM or open forum.
