I'll be needing a set of broadheads pretty quick here so what do you
guys use and why. I know pretty much anything will work, Muzzy seems to
have a good rep. I want to stick with a one piece though, not too
worried of the price will be a little higher, and no mechanicals
either. Montecs look good, but there are many out there. -------------

BK, Yer look'n at the new sexy product... stick with Muzzy's or spitfires if your not too accurate to begin with. Break or lose one of them Montac's and yer gonna cry to replace it. Not to mention they ain't easy to sharpen'. Spot |

Lol, what are you trying to say?!? I do a lot of target shooting, won't
say I'm near expert status but usually get pretty respectable scores. I
know that means very little in the field, but thanks for the vote of
confidence.  I don't really like the multi piece ones, don't like the idea of them loosening or the blades shifting off center. Plus the one piece ones are a little bigger with the same or less weight. -------------

Stick with Muzzy's. Just for the heck of it lets see how many deer you can get using the same broadhead. I'm up to 3. But they won't fly in my X-Bow so I'm using Bucks mec. on that cream puff. ------------- God,Mother,Country,and Hot Rods. Done with political crap.LOL |

Tikka, What's an x-Bow? I use to use Nap Spitfires on WT's but I quit bow hunt'n 2 years ago. Apparently my bow hunt'n was please'n the god's and me quit'n weren't so they threw a new Buckmaster G2XL at me and now I must do as they have command'd.... I'm set to ring in some serious doe meat this year... Maybe I'll even sting me a nice buck. Either way I want to try muzzy's just cause they've got such a good rep. Spot |

yup i think he is too. i use thunderheads. never shot them at a deer sence i never see them lol but im hopeing they do good ------------- The good life!!!! |

Yup Horton crossbow,hate it absolutly hate it.but I can't shoot my MacPherson since my shoulder surgery and it gets me out in the woods during archery season,so I'm stuck with a cream puff x-bow. YUCK It won't shoot broadheads worth a flip but does well with mec. heads. Buck knives maks a good one. I bought my last set of Muzzys in 97' and I'm still hunting with the same ones,well I was till the Doc' stepped in. ------------- God,Mother,Country,and Hot Rods. Done with political crap.LOL |

For years with my longbow, recurves, and my compounds I shot BEAR Razorheads. I still have some BEAR Razorheads on wooden shafts that I shot in the 1960s. I never lost a deer to a bad blade performance. Like Tika, I'm now restricted to a X-bow. Horton works great with Satellites, but lately I shifted to mechanical opening to be compatible with my brother. His bow only shoots mechanicals accurate. Since we travel together, i like to use the same arrows and heads. If is tough enough to carry all the gear on planes these days. I've killed 6 deer and one antelope with the mechanicals, I have been impressed. and remember I'm a Razorhead (1950s technology guy). The bigger the hole the more/faster the bleed down. I've seen the mechanicals go clean thru an antelopes neck, even a razorhead would have trouble on that shot. Just thoughts. I've got my mulie tag, and the mechanicals will go with me. BEAR BEAR

I have used Thunderheads for years, they shot well out of my compound
and when I went to the crossbow they shot good out of that too. Don't

Make mine Muzzy's! They got practice blades and the replaceable hunting blades really lock into place. Now for my traditional bows, I use zwicky saw blades on cedar shafts but that's just my preference. ------------- Paritur pax bello - Peace is obtained by war. |

I'll let you know how the Montec G5s are after I kill my elk this year. I like them because they are flow molded so they can't come apart or get slightly out of balance when you put it together. I have the diamond sharpener with the leather strop on back and sharpening doesn't seem too tough. The price isn't much to sweat, my last 6 BHs last me 3 years. I retire them after they draw blood, or get bent when I miss..:) |

Just another thought. Broadheads with "chisel points" do work better on bone hits. I have started to take neck shots only in my local area on large bucks. i Like the chisel points and they will not veer of when vertebrae are hit. they break bone, not slice sideways like the blade points do. Ribs are not really a problem for any BH. Even the Bear Razorhead inserts cut ribs like butter. BEAR |
