One problem about being to sick to shoot is you are not to sick to shop.  In the last month and a half I bought 3 rifles, four scopes and hundreds of dollars of dies, mounts, cleaning gear, and even a few extra turkey decoys.

But yesterday I went with a buddy to watch him buy a 223 Remington 700, that was on sale.

In the case were some new Leupold Varx-3 scopes, at what seemed like bargain prices.

A 6-24x40mm witha fine cross hair jumped into myhands, $484.  Seemed like too much to pass up.  It will go on my 243 PD gun, freeing up an Elite 4200 4-16x50mm.  Now I need a rifle for the 50mm.  Problems problems???/ solution is Visa.Wink

If you are looking for some good glass the exhausting supply of VARX-3 and VARX-2s are worth looking at.

Yeah, NH. I can understand brand loyalty but I hope he didn't replace a perfectly good $500 scope with another perfectly good $500 scope, just to have Leupold stenceled on the side of it.  Ya start doing stuff like this and it's taking brand loyalty to a whole new level of obsurdity.  I don't see BEAR doing something like this, anyway.  I'm suspecting it has something to do with the added magnification for his varminting needs, but I could be wrong.  I don't know.  That's why I asked the question    .  >>  klallen

Klallen is right...olde eyes always need more.  those PDs are small and i thought the extra xxxs would help at the 400 yds plus plains rats.

Regarding the 4200 B&L (aka Bushnell) Elite.  I bought this scope on the advise of a guy i knew from shooters.  A great rifleman, who had an unusual profession, usually only talked about in paperback books.  Olde Sarge.  He swore by this scope for long range, and in some e-mails said that what he liked best was the eyerelief didn't change with power like he thought the Leupold did.  well, I was going to Africa for a 3 week safari and needed a general game rifle, Ruger 77 in 338.  But i also wanted to use the gun for night hunting leopards over bait, so large Objective lens was required.  I got the Elite with a 50 mm front.  It was a perfect scope and rugged, the bluing got warn off lots of barrel from bumping around but that loooog cantelevered scope with the extra lens shade never moved.  i can only say good things about the 4000 and the 4200 (3000 and 3200 are also quality scopes).

Unfortunately IMHO the eyerelief changes just like most scopes.  i really wanted to have some fun with Olde Sarge on Shooters when i got back.  unfortunately, I learned second hand that he had died.  a real loss to that board, i had lots of respect for his opinions.  i had his private e-mail address, he was living mostly in Austrailia.  i e-mailed his address and got a short but sweet reply from his wife.  Since then I've had a number of computer crashes and lost his e-mail address.

But, i have a feeling in the business he was in the 'death' might have been a creation.  i hope some day to see him on the internet again.  Resurection?????  On this topic, a guy logged on one time either here or 24 camp, with the handle 'old sarge'.  I asked politely if he had been resurrected, he disappeared never responding.  I hope old sarge is still lurking out there, and killing 'roos for the bounty in his 'off-time'.  I thought his Sako trg in 338 lapua was a bit much for 'roos, but I think he liked to sharpen his skills for large mammals.

i've been collecting parts for a new rifle, sniper shock, M700 SA, and the 4200 elite.  i just can't figure what cartridge??????  i was going with the 260 R, but now I got a 260 R kimber.
