managed a few minutes today w/ the 480. got nikon guiding the bullets in about 1" high at 50 yards. i have done very little w/ this gun, but as time permits i expect i'll get more work in w/ it.

factory hornady 325 xtp's are running at 1350-ish f/s. i'm a little disappointed in accuracy, but given how little i've worked w/ the gun, i'll not make any firm calls on it yet. i think i have 1 chamber that keeps throwing a wild bullet... more on this when i get a chance to dig.

anyway, was just wondering what zero you have your handguns set at? this gun is being set up to hunt the black hills... average shots that i have taken are right at 50 yards (closest being 2 or 3 yards, furthest around 65 or so). there are limited opportunities to shoot pretty far considering the terrain (say 150+ yards), but expect most shots to be under 75. any input?

Dakotasin;

Hard to call without all the ballistic data. Plug the numbers into your favorite program or consult the tables & see what pops out. If you are one inch high at 50 yards, what's the thing doing at 100 yards? For all we know, it might still be climbing towards that 96" above line-of-sight midrange & be zero'd at 879 yards. OK, OK, maybe not. But you see what I mean.

yeah, i see what you're saying... i had to keep lowering it to get it on the paper at 25 before i could back it off to 50. i think that at 50 it is still on the upward arc - at least where it is sitting at now. obviously, i have a lot of work to do w/ this system, but i was just trying to figure out where is the best zero... having very limited experience w/ handgun hunting, i thought maybe someone here might have a preference and a reason.
