Fishing northern Saskatchewan.

4 of us fishing for Northern Pike, we got 410 pike, with 20 over 40 inches.  all put back, except shore lunch.  also got 12 lake trout, and 10 Grayling.

good fishing, terrible air trip.  3 days coming back, sleep in airport, flight cancelled.  Poor assistance from Air Canada.

Best part of flights were the three float planes.

Smoke was bad.  Red skies.

Far enough north 59+ latitude, so we had only 2 hours of darkness each night.

The area, like much of Canada is a mass of interconnected lakes and rivers with 50% islands.  We saw lots of islands that had been burned bare from lightning strikes,  over the last 20 years.  Some new pine growth on some.  Most vegetation there is pine trees, so the tar makes for really hot dirty smoke.

Smokey haze was from Saskatoon to Toronto, 1800 miles by plane.

Fishing in Canada is what spoiled me from fishing.

Were you anywhere close to Lake La Ronge?

I have only been to a fly in lake once. I don't remember the name of the lake.

We went to lake Wapawekka several times. The guide picked us up at a boat ramp and we went in from there and stayed on an island.

Both places had amazing fishing.

In canada, government controlled areas are leased out to exclusive  lodges.  So on the 3 large lakes 10+ miles long, we were the only people.  Also rule is return ll fish except those eaten at shore lunch.

so the fish are more and bigger than 30 years ago on these lakes.  They are fly into, no roads; so no poachers.

We fished 10 hours a day for 10  days.  exhausting

great time.
