I load fpr the .50 AE. The DE's love hot loads. Weak loads will stove pipe every time. Basically take out a mortgage for the powder needed and run everything at mid level and up. H110 is a favorite and WW296 is a second. Don't compress the 296 attempting max levels.....bad things happen. Also never run anything that doesn't have a coating or jacket, gas action turns to single shot. 429DE is the older 440 Corbon improved. 1800 fps with a 240 gr. was normal and hot loads would coax some serious 2200 fps. (Some claimed much faster speeds) Theoretically it is possible with the fourteen inch barrels. I don't have the wallet to want to find out what the catastrophic failures would be like on that. ------------- ...oh yeah! thats gonna hurt! |

Yeah, any .440 corbon data I see claiming 1800 fps was from a 10" barrel. I'm looking to work myself up to 1600+ fps in my 6" barrel. Should be close with my top end load of 30 gr. The factory loads I've been using to get familiar with the handgun have all been north of 1600 fps. I've read they use a 29.8 gr charge of aa11fs at the factory to achieve that. I assume H110 will perform well but will try that next if I don't see what I want. We'll see. Been handloading the .50ae for years in an automag v. Really like that cartridge. Had a nice 420 gr cast fp rolling it in. Berry's makes a heavy jacketed 300 gr bullet I'd like to try in the 50ae. I like the automag platform more then the de. But being an out of production handgun, I think it's time to get a .50ae barrel for the de, clean the automag and put it away for safe keeping. k

The wife and son really don't want anything to do with the handgun. It's to heavy for them. And I get it. Compared to my Automag V, it is very heavy. But so far, I've appreciated the weight as it seems to manage the recoil well. Factory ammo has been a joy to shoot.  I've got some experience handloading bottleneck semiauto cartridges. The Tok, .357 Sig, a .357x10mm wildcat my bro rustled up putting the sig top on a 10mm case (along the lines of the 9x25 Dillon) and the .40 Super have all been fun to work with. This .429 de is certainly a different class of cartridge, though.  Going to start with H110. I've got a starting load of 28.5 grs ready followed by 29.0, 29.5 and 30.0 . Everything I've read suggests max should be right around that 30 gr charge. Now I need to get the snow to stop flying so the ground can dry out and range sessions can begin. lol. k

Started some load development with this bugger last week. Data was kinda hard to come by but using H110, CCI350's, MRI brass and Hornady's 240 gr XTP, I worked up 5 rounds of each load increment and here's what we saw over the chrony : 28.5 grs - 1520 fps 29.0 grs - 1557 fps 29.5 grs - 1568 fps This is where things kinda went off the rails. After the the first 3 shots at 29..5 grs, my chrony read 1346 and 1294 fps for shots 4 and 5. Not correct. Either the sun was at the wrong angle for clean reads or my battery was losing steam and affecting things. Either way, I didn't shoot any of my 30.0 gr increment, opting to save them until I did something to ensure my chrony was functioning properly. That 30.0 gr load is sposed to be MAX and offer a velocity around that 1600 fps range. To be continued ...... k ------------- A Big Mouth Don't Make A Big Man !!! The Duke |
