When I was a kid snakes were common.  lift up and old board or piece of canvas sack, and out came a dispossessed snake.  Most were garter or black snakes.

I've not seen many snakes of any kind in the Northeast for decades.  still see some of them in the carolinas and florida.

Thinking about it, I suspect, that since hawks/owls are protected and thriving, they dine often on snakes.

how about you guys???

We have more than I would like to see here too.

Years ago when I worked at a coal mine they dug into a rattle snake den. I've never seen anything like that. Their must have been 50-100 snakes crawling around the shovel and the haul truck that was getting loaded.

Definatly a sight.
