OK all, what GPS is best to use with OnX? I have looked at the Rino so we can have text use if need be. Is there any others out there that are better? What do you guys use/recommend?

Not used a Rino.

I have a Garmin, Oregon 650. works with Wy and Mt hunting chip. I have had it for about 5 years, paid about $500+.

on pricing, sems lots of factory remanufacturer units are very cheap $200. I prefer new, although those units have full factory warranty.

All of the unit today are based upon Geocaching; which means clutter and not hunter friendly. All are battery eaters.

I have a Montana it works great with OnX but no two text.

The INreach has it and works OnX, My son has this one.

BUT he has an app on his phone that send his movements to a computer link. His wife and I can track him anywhere. He can text to that screen too.

All cool stuff. I think the Oregon can track another GPS on it's screen.

That works great when you have to split up hunting.

Guess I should have menttion, your choice will depend upon how complex your needs are. To me simple is always better. It is getting tough to get simple items any longer.

This is my 3rd handheld over 35 years...each one more difficult to use when all you want is "where am I" and "which direction to camp". Mine give tidal changes, sunrise, etc Early models had no compass in them so you needed to carry a compass also...no problem, I always carry two compass.

I have used a garmin quite a bit. I have had the Astro and now the Alpha for my dogs since they came out. Actually, the alpha is compatible with OnX, but I would rather have a dedicated unit for hunting. Same with the phone option. I would hate to lose/damage my phone while hunting. Lots of info on my phone that I can't afford to lose. Anyhow, the texting isn't absolutely necessary, but thought it would be a good idea. Being able to see where each other are I think would be a must, for safety sake if nothing else. Of course cheaper is better, but I am of the mindset of pay once, cry once but it does all we need to do.

I think onX only works with Garmin products. I have a Colorado w/onX chip for past 5+yrs and it's fine but does eat batteries.

I have an older Garmin that I really like. It works good with ONX Hunt. It will do a lot more than I know how to do.

The only problem I have with it is the screen is getting too small. My eyes are getting older and I have been thinking about getting something with a bigger screen.

Wing I agree about screen being too small on my Garmin too. When I can I use my phone with larger screen with onX chip. Haven't mastered yet how to make "copy" ahead of time of area to use when no signal available there.
