Buddy got a 6.5-300....seems logical the next step would be a mach4+ 6.5-378 right?

these kind of wildcats give diminishing returns...burn 110% powder.....get 2% increase in  velocity...and burn out the barrel in 6 boxes of shells.

Seems the reverse is also true....reduce the powder by 10% but only lose 4% velocity.

When you see wilcats claiming very high velocity; remember they are not doing it at a Sammi pressure; the 6.5-06 at 72,000 psi will shoot st or near the 6.5-300.

In physics, there is no free ride.

Just to sell more guns/ammo/components, can't kill anything deader than dead...

Any cartridge will wear a barrel. Fast ones do it faster sure. Other then long range competitors, I would find it hard to believe anyone would shoot out a barrel. Powders are less corrosive then they used to be, projectiles are cleaner, and barrels are of a much better quality. Modern Swift loads and rifle combos are getting several thousand rounds down the tubes before wear takes it's toll, same with hot loaded 22-250's and the like. Dog town guys deal with it a fair amount more then anyone who would be using a 6.5. I feel that there will always be some who won't be satisfied til they have a plasma rifle in the 40 watt range.

Dead is a relative term. DRT and running two miles terminally wounded  both have the same result. I think hitting any game up close with that kind of speed would either zip through or explode on impact....not sure which would be better either. I like the big and slow flying bulldozers personally but I have a few that reach well beyond my limits. Guess the question is really of not can it exist but should it?
