I am working up loads for my truck gun. Hopefully I will get out to try some out this weekend.

I have loaded some 55 grain Ballistic tips and some 55 grain Hornadys. If I don't get good accuracy from them I am going to try Sierra bullets. I shoot more Sierras than anything else and almost always find them to be accurate.

My question is, What bullet weight would you try? I am looking at Blitzkings. I am looking at 40, 50, and 55 grain.

What would you try first?

Also, I am trying Varget and Winchester 748 powders. I'm really hoping the 748 works. I have 8 pounds of it and it's a fine ball powder so it meters really good through a powder measure.

I haven't checked it with a cleaning rod and tite patch but Savages web site says it's 1:9.

IIRC, 1-9 should shoot the 55s without trouble. I think most 223s some 1-9 twist unless it's a special AR type to shoot the longer 60gr+. I don't shoot 748, but Varget works good in mine with 55gr speer spitzers, 24-25gr charge.

With that twist, 55 gr would be the lightest. And as Maple said 25 gr Varget will do great. Hornady 55 gr v-max or the SP_SX (super explosive) work good.

My 222 rem is 1:14 which it why I bought it, shoots 40-50 gr bullets. Also got a Rem 700 in 223 with a 1:12" twist does good with 50 gr.

Thanks guys. I'll stay with 55's.

I have shot some factory 55 grain V-Max. They shot pretty good. Maybe I'll get a box of them first to work with.
