I've always bought brand named tires. like Kelly best.
But today they are ALL imported. My Kelly tires I bought last fall are from Brazil.
In reality they all prrobably come from the same 10 foreign plants with little difference. So I've devided to buy off brand tires.

Cooper tires have always been good. Are they still made in the USA?

First two digits of DOT code, are company and country of mfg.

Many Cooper, BF Goodrich, and Firestone are made in USA, but not all. There are several smaller brands made in USA also.

I have used several brands over the year but always come back to Cooper tires. Depends on what you're looking for .
Highway ,longevity I would pick Michelin ,where ever there made. Big "Mud" tires I'd say Yokohama. For me I drive about 50/50 pavement ,gravel, aka mumbo gumbo and I can get about 85% of the tire's guarantee before the rocks start going through the tread. BUT there like $200 a tire.

I bought a set of Michelin's for my pickup last fall. They are great on the highway in the summer, but not real good on ice and snow.
Ol' Rusty has a set of Yokohama. They have a more aggressive tread and I have had really good luck with them. I'm not sure, but the name doesn't sound "made in America"

Goodyear tires are built in Canada, Chile, Germany, plus other foreign countries; none made in USA any longer. Firestone tires are owned by Bridgestone a japan company. tire are Made in China or Japan. Kelly are made in China or Brazil. In 2013 Apollo Tyres of India bought buy Cooper, most of their passenger tires are made in India. Ttire stores NTB, firestone, Goodyear say they sell no passenger car tires made in the USA. Things you read on the internet about tires are usually 'old news' or skewed to make it sound as if their tires are made in the USA. You MUST read the fine print on the ssidewall of the tire to KNOW where a tire is manufactured.
Some tires are made in USA, usually ONLY those of limited volumes, where it is not cost effective to move options...these are usually truck and other large specialized tires.

We must be talking about different Cooper Tires,

Copper has plants in serval countries including USA and China, they don't in India. http://coopertire.com/About/Facilities.aspx" rel="nofollow - http://coopertire.com/About/Facilities.aspx
They may import many/most passage car tires from China, DOT code tells you, where tire you're buying is made and date it was made.
Goodyear still has several US plants, Fayetteville NC, Lawton OK, Gadsden AL, Topeka KS, and Danville VA. Granted they produce more tractor/ag, OTR truck and LT truck tires, than passenger car tires. They also produce racing and plane tires, in US.

Yokohama has plants in Salem, VA and West Point MS, look for CC, first two digits of DOT code.

Thanks Robert. I'll look at that. I just assumed that with a name like Yokohama they were made in Japan or China.
I don't know if it's still there, but their was a General tire plant in Odessa Texas when I lived there in the late 80's and early 90's.

The country of manufacturer is marked on the sidewall in english on every foreign tire, required by law.
Every year I end up getting down one the ground with a wet tinger to wipe a tire clean and read the real location of a tire manufacture to some 'buy american' guy on his Goodyear, Firestone etc. Scares them and they feel guilty.......but they just didn't get what they thought they paid for.
