Getting ready for  some big pike.  I usually cast a 4-5 inch spoons, either silver or gold.

Weems a "5 of diamonds ppattern is currently the spoon.  red dots seem to be seen as 'eyes'.

Any thoughts on  fishing for pike?

Me and my Dad used to go to Canada fishing for Northern Pike about every other year. We tried to be there on the first day of summer. June 21st (I think)

We used mostly Len Thompson spoons. They seemed to work a little better than Red Devils. I assume it had something to do with the Len Thompsons has a brass colored back and the Red Devils had a chrome back.

I always seemed to have the best luck with yellow and red 5 of diamonds, Red and white, and yellow and black 5 of diamonds, In that order.

It also seemed like if we found a "hot spot" it really didn't matter what lure you used. you would average catching something on every third cast.

I caught a couple of nice ones just outside of Missoula once, and smaller ones in other places.
Every encounter I have had with pike or pickerel ended with bleeding fingers, one way or another.

Took that trip to Flim Flon Manitoba last year.  Caught hundreds of pike and walleye  Pike loved a "5 of diamonds".  but I fished most of the lures I took and caught  pike on all.

Caught some nice Lake Trout on small silver spoons, deep.  Walleyes were mostly on dead bait.

Shore lunch every day; started eating just Walleye, found the Pike better and  went with all pike the last 4 days.  Black bears visited our different shore lunch place evryday.  they were looking for scraps as soon as the skillets started.

When we went to Canada we found that fresh Northern Pike were better eating than Walleye. After they had been frozen the Walleye were a little better but not much.
