This week I felt like woods walking in the snow.  so I travelled about 500 miles driving in Pennsylvania and western New York.

spent some time in natl forest and state forests.

But I didn't see a single snowmobile.  not on Trails, along roads, at camps, nor at bars.  It use to be that these machines were everywhere.  as soon as it got dark clubs would wind from bar to bar; and often at 8pm the cafe parking lots were filled with snowmachines.

Is there a decline in snowmobiling???

What caused the sharp decline in recreational snowmobiling?  are they popular other places????

They're still popular here, less off-trail riding allowed, has cut back somewhat on avalanches, but they still get a few every year. Most of the current sleds, are more of the adventure style, than cruiser style, that used to be popular on trails. It's like comparing enduro to motocross bike, they now want short blast, instead of long ride.

Short blasts at 100 mph. You can get a LOOOON way in a short blast now a days.
Still plenty out there must be some kind of restrictions in your areas.

Talking to locals, they tell me snowmobile riding is way down because they have same law for DUI as cars.  so no tavern rides anymore.

I've noticed that the snowmobile dealers have disappeared.   Seems cost for new has more than doubled in the past 6 years...no expensive for lots of folks.

12k for my buddies Can-am, nuts! Putting up a fence on my powerline access due to some ignorant riders here. Past 3 years they have used my fresh blacktop as a landing pad for jumping over my snow bank. I'm tired of fixing it every spring. Fine if they want to ride the trails and fields. Just outright disrespectful to others and then they wonder why they are running out of places to use them.

...oh yeah! thats gonna hurt!
