I primarily hunt the heavily wooded northeast.  And my 222 rem is my stardard rifle.  and I have a SXS 10 ga 32 inch belles with full and full chokes.  Both are adequate.

BUT, as I get older (can't stop that) the 10 ga and even the 222 Tikka are getting heavy to carry.

THINKING a dangerous thing!  would my lightweight 10-22 be adequate for coyotes under say 70 yards?

Bullet placement !!!!
My little GD shot a coyote with my 10/22.
She hit it about 5 times with a full clip.
We had to walk quite a ways to find the coyote but we can see quite a ways.
870 12 with dead coyote and a Dead Coyote choke you can shoot 70 yards and probably not have to track it.
How about a single shot 22 or 17 hornet ?

Been looking for a single shot hornet.  don't like the old hammer NEF variety.

Got an old  marlin 22 WMR bolt that might work.   The 10 ga is great on turkey.

Is the marlin 22 WMR a center fire round?
If not I would think it's about the same as the 10/22 con coyotes

I have had a 22 mag for a lot of years and have taken a number of yotes with it. It is much better than a 22LR and will kill yotes cleanly IF you place your shots well.  Just last year I picked up a light weight savage bolt gun in 223. This years model is the 110 lightweight storm. The gun weights just a little over 5 pounds without a scope. Other than a 17 or 22 rim fire it is about the lightest gun I have every used and it shoots great.

My boy has a 6.5 Creedmoor ,Kimber ,mountain assent 24" barrel.
With a Redfield scope, sling, and a full magazine of shells that weighs 5.5 pounds. Shoots two in the same hole then the barrel get hot and it's more like a shotgun pattern .

I did not think of a 22 mag , at close range it would be a very good choice too.

A Remington Mountain rifle is another pretty light one.

I have one in .308 that weighs 6 pounds 9 ounces without a scope. It turned out to be very accurate once I worked up a load for it.

Because I can't drag more than 150 yards, actual rifle weight isn't a problem as I walk in to my pop-up blind about 1 hour before sunrise and stay there till 1/2 hour  after sunset.  A sitter for sure.

Scope choice  ws my big concern.  1-4x is my thought or red dot.

Why not just download the 222 and swap scope out. I've been loading down 223 for grandson (small 7yr old), first @22mag levels, now @22 hornet levels. Somewhere between 17 and 19grs of 4895, would get you there in 222. I don't expect you need the reduced recoil, but the reduced muzzle blast, is nice.
