I would like to try but in my area we can have some pretty long shots. It would be my luck that the buck of a lifetime would be just out of range of a .44.

Haven't used a 44 mag in a couple decades. But for those of you who like a challenge and affinity for the .429 caliber, there is always the 440 Corbon. In a 10" barrel, accurate shots with a lethal punch are stretched well beyond 200 yards.

Don't know about deer, but legend hasit that Linebaugh's son downed an Alaskan Brown at 175yds punching clear through both shoulders with the .475 Linebaugh loaded with a 400gr bullet. I imagine it would do just fine on smaller species.

In my home range 90% of the shots are under 80 yards.  handgun range for sure.

Got about 8 with handguns, 357, 30 herret, 375 win.

A 300 grainer is gonna be a lob at a hundred even hot loaded, kinda curious why you would want to light load it and make it drop more? Most guys are using 240's and whipping them as fast as the wrist will allow out of Ruger's

Found this,

Brian Pearce supplied 300gr data for the .44Spl in Handloader magazine a while back. He reported 1050fps using a Dry Creek 307gr SWC over 15.5gr H110. These were tested in a FA 97 and S&W 24-3 so they would certainly be safe in any .44Mag.

Case strength is not an issue.

I'ld probably start with 15 grains and play around with it a bit. CCI 300 for primers and with the special case you don't have to worry about filler

Probably get more velocity out of a longer rifle barrel and without thr gap of the revolver.

I've loaded some full power 300 grain cast in my Marlin carbine.  They demolished it.  The barrel bard and the cross-pin bent and came off. Tubular mag cam out the front.   To much recoil for the light gun.

Killed one deer with a 44 mag, and one with a 357.  44 was a better killer, if two deer are a test.

I'd say 2 are a good start of a test.

What was the distance of the shots?

357 was  about 40 yards.

got a 44 Black powder rifle kill at 132 yds.

All those yardages posted bear seem reasonable for the cartridge and guns used & shooters skill. Well within the limits of them considering the bullet and charge were appropriate for the round & target & range. Good shooting I'd say.
Two handed most likely with any kind of rest for the revolvers????
Any "glass" involved on the handguns?
