once again the LGS has a off brand 45 auto on sale. 50+ years ago, I bought a surplus Colt from govt. couldn't shoot it, but only paid $17 at the time.
Now getting the bug to buy a low end one.

The ATI may be reasonably priced, but it's a quality piece. No worries there. Since you like loading oddballs....

...as I have said in other threads, the upgrades are easy installs and not at all what we expect for expensive. The 1911 is either a fit for your style and comfort of shooting, or it isn't. Same can be said for any platform of weaponry. As for use? Other then paper, lets hope you never have the need to use it.

To me, That looks like a good price for a 1911. It's definatly a proven design. Even if you end up not liking it you're not out much.
If I thought I needed one I would probably get it. I have a 1911, so I don't think I need one.

1911's are way fun to shoot..east to load for.....on a Dillon..but pretty darn heavy for CCW....open carry easier with good holster...still heavy tho.
Hey Wingmaster.....Only ONE 1911????....that's pretty hard to do, kinda like only eating one potato chip! CAn't hardly be dun. You show great restraint!

IBD, you are right on, I agree the 45 Auto makes a poor CCW. To big, single action, too heavy and for most folks to tough to shoot really well.
Remember the Army produced the M1 carbine and took away the non-combatance troops .45s because the average solder couldn't hit anything beyond 10 foot with a .45.
One of the undercover Narc cops I worked with carried one for 2 years, he then switched to the S&W M39.

So how many times did you call him a wuss and told him he should join you at the range?
A lot has changed in the 1911's since WWII. Most factory guns shoot 2.5" or less at 25 yards and the better ones at 1 1/2" Tighter spec'd guns like STI's are capable of ragged holes at close to fifty yards. Lotsa manufacturers are making them lighter if the extra couple ounces are too much for you to carry all day. If it's too big, get the commander size. I believe a few can be had in a two inch barrel and five shot clip. That would make them smaller and lighter then most snubbies and easier to reload. Before I got my STI I CCW'd for twenty five years a .50 AE Desert Eagle. IWB holster is the only way to go for those as they are truly a heavy and beefy gun. 8 extra clips on the hip helped balance the load though. I'm 5'7" and 180 and never saw why people complained about trying to conceal a 1911 effectively. Any full sized auto is chunky, same goes for any mid framed revolver with a barrel over 4". Find grips you like and practice. The rest is all for show.

A 1911 semi-auto pistol IS a Single Action for sure but if carried for Security/"Business" it then should always be in "Condition 1" (IE: Cocked and Locked as John Browning intended) then all shooter needs to do is "off" the lever safety and pull the trigger.....until threat is no longer! or you run out of ammo...then a quick mag change and start over. Heavy for carry puposes can be overcome somewhat with a proper/quality holster & belt system.
You won't convince a Bulleye shooter a 1911 .45 acp can't shoot....accurate out to 50 yds for them....and one handed to boot.

I'm no bullseye shooter, but I have shot a few groups with my 1911 that I was proud of.
I don't carry mine because I think their is better options out there. I do shoot it better than I shoot my carry gun though.
