I had to get home by 2:00pm so we had to hunt fast.
Got the 140 miles out of the way in the dark, we where sitting on the crest of a coulee as the sky lit up .
Calling in the twilight is cool. You can see through the scope but not with the naked eye. We had coyotes howling in every direction.
No one came in to play but it's still quite a rush to hear.
We did about 4 more same results. The fifth was much better. Two showed them selves but would not get closer then 660 yards.
As we where sitting working them the boy caught a flash out of his eye behind us. YUP Mr. sneaky. To bad for him my son is as flexible as a willow branch. In a flash he was twisted around and the 17 hornet popped the dog dead center in the lower neck.
We hunt 300/400 yards apart and use two ways to keep in touch. I didn't even turn around the sound said , Hey dad I just killed the first coyote of the day.

A short drag back to the truck.

Then relieved him of his fur coat.

Another Blank set and then the last one before we had to go.
This one was a good producer in the past and wanted it for the end. Went out set up like normal 400 yards apart and looking different directions.
About 15 minutes in I kinda relaxed and figured we would be blanked and go home.
The all of a sudden there was a coyote running past me, WHAT?
How the heck?
I was scrambling to get the gun in the right direction ,and , It stopped squatted down to pee.
Don't know where it came from and why it was running and why did it stop in all the commotion to pee.
It turned out some bird hunters down below us must have busted it out and was just running by.
It must have been one of its sent markers and it could not run by with out adding a little ...
Who knows?
By the way I missed the coyote at 150 yards stopped standing broad side....Peeing !

I have read some people eat coyote.
I have never tried it. I have had bear and Mountain lion and it SUCKS. I would think any of the predators would be bad news for my tummy.
You do know that even coyote doesn't eat coyote.
Only thing I know of that does is birds of pray and magpies. Maybe a wolverine would?

Samchap;

I think it's like the phase to "eat crow". I've noticed
that a dead crow doesn't get touched by any other scavenger
with the possible exception of insects. And I'd like to
hear what the reaction was if any human has eaten crow and
recorded the experience. Although I strongly suspect that
the message would boil down to:

                YUCK!

"CROW CASSEROLE

1/2 dozen crow breasts
1 qt. sauerkraut
1/2 dozen strips bacon
1/3 c. chopped onion

In skillet brown the crow breasts, then place them on a 1 1/2" layer of sauerkraut in bottom of a casserole. Cover each piece of meat with a strip of bacon and sprinkle the onion over them. Cover the breast with another layer of sauerkraut and pour sauerkraut juice over it. Bake two hours in oven heated to 350 degrees. "

http://www.cooks.com/recipe/eu9p3639/crow-casserole.html - Cook crow

People eat " crow" all the time I found one for coyote ...
"Instructions: Throw all the ingredients in a crock pot and let them cook for about 8 hours. After it's done, feed it to your mother-in-law and tell her it's venison. Cut meat into chunks and brown in oil. Add wine, onions, garlic, salt and pepper and your other favorite spices"

Generally eating carnivores is not a good healthy meal.

I've have eaten african lion. Ok if prepared properly
can be delicious.

Black Bears are omnivorous and eat meat and vegetables.
I eat black bear all the time, had it tonight in spinach
balls. should try to avoid eating flesh eaters that eat
mainly ocean fish, lots of parasites, especially coastal
brown/griz that eat raw salmon.

A couple of years ago I got a nice spring black bear. Took all the meat. About a week later I decided to try a package of steaks. My wife said no way, no how it is not going to happen so I decided to try it myself. I as completely astonished by how good it was. It was some of the best wild game I have ever eaten. After much pleading and begging I finally got my wife to try one bite of a steak and that was a big mistake because after that I could not keep her away from them. She thought it was excellent also. Maybe I just got a good one but that spring bear was excellent.

I've had black bear steaks. Some were good, some were OK
and once one from a boar that was tough and unsavory in
flavor as in No more for me, not even another bite.

A fellow from Alabama told me that when they trapped
wild pigs they would castrate the young males and let
them go and when they were shot later in life they were
OK to eat.

Ducks, ring necks-woodies-blacks-mallards here in Maine
taken over inland fresh waters are mostly very good but
later in the season when they are feeding on salt water
"stuff" they take on a strong fishy-liver taste. Edible
but not as tasty as those in fresh water eating plants,
seeds and acorns. But interestingly the eider sea ducks
whose main diet is bivalves, produce a large steak sized
1/2 filleted breast meat that fries up just fine and
dandy.

When I lived in Fla a couple life-times ago, some of my friends who were members of the local indigenous population hunted wild pigs. Get one, dig a big hole in the back yard, fill it with rocks and make a fire. Then after the fire goes out, wrap the pig in canvas, throw it in the hole, cover it up, and wait until tomorrow. It is acceptable to drink beer while you wait. Next afternoon, dig up the pig, accompany with a huge vat of BBQ sauce, tear off big pieces of pig, dip in sauce, eat until you can't walk.

Best food EVER.

Had bear once in a restaurant. It was horrible. Could have been the preparation, but I was unimpressed.

looks like the guys were having fun.

I think it would have been better eating if they would
have soaked it in salt water for a few hours. They
also seemed to really over cook it; making it tough.
they have a squirrel video also.

hope a cut and paste on the link works?
