So, lets start with a 12ga pump shotgun..front bead only...24" bbl....

add 2 3/4"...3 3/4 Drams Eq., standard buckshot loads (27 pellets #4 buck)....
  • what Choke do we use for most Effectiveness on coyotes

  • what would be Max Effective Range?

don't change any of the criteria above.....just your best response from either experience/first hand knowledge or scientific facts.

Choke or choke tube?

Steel or lead?

Can't compress steel. Some States don't allow lead.

Plain barrel = modified

Flush choke tube = full

Extended choke tube = extra full.675 with lead shot

80 yards effective but not the maximum possible.

My experience is on red fox not coyotes.

I use 3" 1 3/8 oz. plated lead "F" and or #4 buck in my 870. It's a longer barrel 28 maybe?
Anyway I use a "Dead Coyote" .669 ( ? ) choke extended ,ported choke. That's really a tight choke.
I can get 80% or better in a 10" paper plate at 40 yards.
I feel a 75 yard shot is absolutely the max I'm willing to shoot a coyote. I have had a few run off but I feel they where the shooter not the shell...
At 70 yards I get around 70% in a 30" target.
