Fella's;
Things have changed a bit & this year's event will need some input from whomever wants to attend. First, I no longer live in Great Falls, we moved about 40 miles out of town. Furthermore, where we are now is not exactly in the best direction for prime gopher shooting. This is also complicated by the motel's reluctance to block book any rooms for us, since there was zero activity last year. That may be possible to offset, but I need hard commitments from people as early as possible. The good news is that I have a landowner's word that we will have access in the Cascade area on good gopher ground. However, I haven't checked it out yet. But, it's certainly in the right area. Also, he's willing to help us get back on the Dana place, but no guarantees there. Then there's my range. Concrete benches, on concrete filled steel posts, set in yet more concrete. We have gongs from 600 to 1000 yards & can set target frames at any reasonable distance too. The benches are ambidextrous, and have very adjustable seats that can accommodate a wide variety of people. We can also provide RV space at the ranch though without full service. That may be subject to change, I do know a couple of electricians. The dates will be late April as always, but I don't have the spring gun show schedule in front of me at this time. Probably April 29-30 and May 1, but it may be the weekend before that, I'll find out. What other activities would you like to see? Coyote hunting is possible, we have more than enough on the ranch & in the area. P-dogs? Anything else? Besides BEAR and myself, who's in? 900F ------------- Birth certificate!? Whats the plan man? Lots of us have to get some time off and about now is when we need to get that done. I know in the past several we have planed it for the end of April. It coincides with the gun show here in Great falls. I'm not a gun show guy but most of the attendees are. It normally starts with an early breakfast Friday at a "Greazzy" spoon then off to the hunt. Saturday is a repeat and ends with a Highfalutin dinner at one of our few fancy restaurants. If the weather permits there is a lot of Gopher killing going on those two days. Better bring plenty of rim fire 22 shells and a rifle to shoot 100 yards. Once and a while if the gophers are not cooperating we will put in some windshield time and find some prairie dogs. AND once and a wail we do a little coyote calling... CB900F in the past was the "Ram Rod" on this hunt, I hope to God he will do it again this year. As I said earlier, there's going to be a fair amount of stuff up for discussion concerning 2016's event. The Great Falls spring gun show is: Friday April 29 thru Sunday May 1st. That's when I propose to host the MYGAWDS event also. If you want to continue the Thursday night dinner that's been traditionally held at my home, that would mean traveling 40 miles out of the city, 80 miles round trip. It's an easy drive & I would not mind doing it. Besides, it'd be nice to show off the new man cave. As far as the hotel/motel situation goes, since we had 0 rooms last year there's no special rates available this year at the Quality Inn. The gun show is fine, but not a priority with me. Seems a little later than usual, maybe no snow nor WIND.
Like to see the new man cave and digs. We could then drive to my place and compare my man cave, only 1950 easy miles away.LOL The regular price at Quality is fine, I get bonus points there. Lots of snow here today where I am in Great Falls VA , |

I talked with Tom today & got some encouraging news. He'd spoken with a friend of his at their church & the friend informed him that a neighbor of their was begging to have gophers shot. Tom just had some major back surgery & is in recovery but hopes to be able to fully participate in MYGAWDS. I am really planning on making it over this year.
Great Falls is fine with me, although I do have a friend with a house on the Missouri near Dearborn that they rent out. It is a 3 BR/2BA and they have a separate 4 bed "bunkhouse". If in the area of the shooting it could be a base of sorts for those who are interested. I could find out if it is available for that weekend and how much. Just a random thought that passed through my head. But no matter where I stay I think I will be there and my wife may come along for the ride. Depending on the rental rate, that may work. Could you inquire please? Guys, it's something like 10-12 miles on t'other side of Cascade from Great Falls. The house has a kitchen, grills, etc. Huevos Rancheros for breakfast, make a few shooter sandwiches to take out to the gopher killing fields , BYOM for dinner. ;)

If we go over that we need to have two ways and split up about a 1/4 mile apart If cover allows. With 4 we should anyway. Poor coyotes will not stand a chance if they show up. All us crack shots will incinerate them. What do you guys want to do about transportation and food for a Thursday coyote hunt?
I can pick you all up and we can stop at 4Bees on the way out to the king ranch. Sun up is 6:25 we need to be out at the ranch a half hour before that. Takes most of an hour to get there. In my mind we need to be paying for breakfast by a minute after 5 am. An hour for food puts us at about a 4 am pick up. To scary guys? For me that's 4 hours of extra sleep. In any case: Get on 10th south eastbound, go to Raynesford. At Raynesford turn right onto Montana 427. Go 11 miles on Montana 427, turn right into big shelter belt you see on the right hand side of the road. Get in shelter belt, get lost. Yahoo! The two CZ 10-round mags I ordered came in today, now I have four. If I could find the four that got lost during the move, I'd have eight. However, there's no sense in counting chickens that went to the wild. Then Garou showed up with a CZ 25-round banana mag. It's an official CZ product, but still looks weird as hell. That's probably a one time a day use & then reload it for another day kinda item. Takes long enough to fill a 10- rounder. 900F ------------- Birth certificate!? Any time I've hunted or gone to the range with AR guys,
their rifle jams at least once. Sometimes it doesn't get fixed till they take it back to camp for repairs. They are acceptable to the military, because people like McNamara said they are cheap you WILL use them! Bolt actions just keep killing critters, while ARs need to get check ups and oil changes. Is it true that ARs are two stroke, needing oil injection? |

The due date is Tuesday, 3 days from now. We are all anxiously waiting for the new granddaughter. Hopefully the birth will happen soon. If the baby isn't born by Thurs morning I will be heading to GF. It's only 3 1/2 hours back to Missoula to welcome her to our family.

Where and when is our meeting /eating spot for Fridays gopher hunt ??? My friend Steve ( sons F-I-L ) lives in Fairfield . Need to know when and where to meet us for the traditional morning meet and greet breakfast. He will car Pool with me I can take two more too. Still no granddaughter. She was due yesterday. I'll know more after the Dr. appointment tomorrow morning. The new-to-be mama wants this over I'm packed and ready to join you guys. Hopefully the birth will come after the weekend. ------------- Trigger Control is knowing when not to pull it. |
