FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE Industry Contact: Gary Giudice Blue Heron Communications (800) 654-3766 gary@blueheroncomm.com Smith & Wesson’s Carl Bernosky Wins NRA Na tional High Power Rifle Championship Bernosky Uses M&P15 Platform Rifle For Second Year in a Row SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (August 12, 2008) – Smith & Wesson Corp., announced today that Carl Bernosky took home top honors as the overall champion for the 8 th time at the 2008 National Rifle Association (NRA) High Power Rifle Champi onship Matches at Camp Perry, Ohio. Using an AR-15 platform rifle with a Smith & Wesson M&P15 lower, Bernosky achieved a first place finish and successfully defended his title from the previous year. In addition, Bernosky also earned the NRA Civilian and NRA Match Rifle Championship titles. Competing in the match for his 15 th time, Bernosky decided to use the same rifle he developed last year, featuring a Smith & Wesson M&P15 lower, as the base platform for his custom high power rifle. A veteran of high power matches, Bernosky has amassed over 30 years of experience in competing and in building custom rifles. While Bernosky was not the only competitor in the field using an AR-15 platform, he earned the distinction as the first champion to use the AR-15 platform at last year’s match and successfully defended his title again this year using the same rifle. “This year’s match proved to be one of the more difficult championships that I have competed in,” said Carl Bernosky, founder of Bernosky Sh ooting Sports. “During the first three days of competition the weather was outstanding, but on the last day the wind was over 20 mph making shooting from a standing position extremely difficult. Accuracy is the key to high power matches and using an AR-15 platform rifle definitely helped to improve my scores when faced with the adverse weather conditions.” During the competition, Bernosky posted a top score of 2384-118x and was awarded the Mumma Trophy and Gold Tone National Champions medallion. The custom high power rifle used by Bernosky was chambered in 6mm Hagar and consisted of many custom parts including a Smith & Wesson M&P15 lower; a 26-inch Krieger barre l; a Geiselle trigger; and a custom upper assembled by John Holliger. “ The M&P15 match rifle that I used at Ca mp Perry was built for the NRA High Power competition,” said Bernosky. “The ergonomics of the lower and butt assembly make it the most comfortable standing rifle I have ever shot. The semi-automatic feature allows for better sighting, recoil control, and recovery during the rapid-fire events. Plus, the accuracy is equal to the best bolt-action match rifles being built, a real confiden ce builder when shooting at 600 yards. I think that it is clear that the AR-15 rifle has a home in this type of competition and I look forward to coming back next year with the same rifl e and trying to make it three in a row.”
