Two weeks ago I went to Dixie Gunworks. I went to buy a Uberti copy of a Walker Colt. They were out of stock so I settled for an 1860 Army Colt (Uberti of course). It is .44 caliber, and is a real "hoss." I bought the flap holster to go with it. It has extended screws and a notch under the pistol grip for a shoulder stock. Now, thinking back on it, it will probably be on the ban list, since it is a military look alike. I have not fired it yet, time does not allow. I will, maybe some day this summer when I have a little time and no one is there to bother me. Anyway, there it is, I now have two cap and ball revolvers that I haven't shot. The other one is a Pedersoli Remington Army. I bought it used for $50. The Colt came in at $450 with the holster. On their rack I saw and handled Pedersoli Sharps rifle in .45-70 for $1400. KP - Sounds like a good score. I have yet to own a cap 'n ball wheelgun. But I have seriously looked at the Pietta copies of the 1860 model Colts. I have always loved the lines of the 1860 models. How about spoiling us with some pics when you have the time?

I really think cap and ball revolvers are cool. That is something I don't have either. Maybe I will look around. Now, a Sharps, I think I really have fun with that. I have a buddy that shoots at national matches with a Shilo Sharps with a peep sight. I have heard about some 3 or 4 inch groups at 1000 yards. I am not sure I could see a 4 by 8 sheet of plywood 1000 yards away. Wing master ------------- I have always considered myself to be quite the bullshitter, But ocasionally it is nice to sit back and listen to a true professional......So, Carry on. |

I am not so sure I could see an elk that far away. I am planning on some looong range gopher hunting in the near future. Ever wonder why the US dropped the idea of two gun one ammo a long time ago? They still use the odd m-9 and m-45 for ops with the corresponding handgun, but I mean like taking a S&W X-frame and chambering it in either .50 Beowulf or .458 SOCOM. I've run this past S&W a couple times and they don't like the idea, do to them requiring moon-clips. Just crazy thoughts that pop into my ole' noggin!

Jsg. on the .50 Beowulf or .458 SOCOM thought. Do you think that more than .01 % of the military personal could handle a ultra high power hand cartridge? Remember one big reason the military went with the 22 Cf rifle 45 years ago, was too few could shoot a 308 rifle round, even in a 8 pound rifle! |

Soldiers in WW-2 were young me who pitched bales of hay, worked in Steel mills, and built cars and bridges. Today's youth buys Chinese goods, plays video games and uses their fingers to touch/point to text messages. WW-2 veterans learned to work, hunt and fish in the outdoors; and had callouses on their hands. It is MTV/Facebook people today. I see guys at the range with muzzle brakes on their 243 and 223s. |

My son is in 2-1, EZ company, 150 lbs. drippin wet and still loves shooting my .375 H&H at the range and can fire my .50 Desert Eagle one -handed,(but his grouping sucks that way) My belief is that few actually carry this weapon style for close quarters and barrier penetration. Just thought it made sense for a back-up when in those conditions ------------- ...oh yeah! thats gonna hurt! |

jsg. Your son is not the "average" military guy; obviously he had a good teacher before he went into the military. IIRC I saw a stat that today 90% or more new personnel in the military services had never fired a rifle before entering! |

From what I've seen from his grad pics and what I've seen first hand, thats fairly accurate. But the few that would actually be using them are all in spec. ops., and not would you would call amateur. Ballistically speaking, the .50 Beowulf and .458 SOCOM are very close to the .500 magnum and the .460 magnum. With proper training, could be useful. ------------- ...oh yeah! thats gonna hurt! |

I saw that some 'smith in germany was makng a .600 nitro revolver. It was HUGE, but it was all .600 nitro. The cost was somewhere around $17,000. Also, some years back someone, I forget who, was selling a .45-70 revolver. It was pricey, but not nearly as the nitro. Anyway, I believe that the .45-70 is still available. A shoulder holster would be needed to carry it though, as to wear it on your belt would pull your pants off.....................Kingpin

King; I'll take a look around & see if I can't find it, but I think that you're thinking of the BFR by Magnum Research. Yup, found it, & I do believe that it's what you are thinking of. Now then, who want to come out to MYGAWDS? I happen to have this petite little number that launches a 425 gr bullet out its pretty average length barrel at a mere 1250 fps. 900F ------------- Birth certificate!?
