I was reading a forum the other day and somebody suggested that when shooting off of the bench w/a pistol, for the best accuracy, that the best supported position is w/the hands resting on an object and the gun free (say testing a load for accuracy).  I've usually tried to support the hand AND the barrel, or barrel shroud on something.  Wat U tink 'bout it?

I use a solid rest for load development. When sighting in I'll use a
"soft" rest. When doing some testing the other day I had a .44
Blackhawk shooting 8" high off a solid rest at 20 yards. It was about
an inch and a half high with the soft rest.

Yes, but which one shot the tightest?
