good to see ya klallen - was just wondering where you'd been hiding out.
mounts look great - you're gonna have to build a spec house and make sure you have a large, vaulted ceiling room built to appropriately house the mounts! they look great! the taxidermy bill is usually bittersweet. at least it is for me.

evening (or morning), guys. had to wait a bit as i saved up so that i could get this group together on the wall. prefering the mulies as i do, they look better together then i had hoped they would. these guys are what keep me forever looking forward to the next hunting season. these 4, and one yet to do, were all taken within 800 yds. of each other. brothers taken several of his large whitetail within the same general area. even with the difficulty of hunting the place over the last couple years, opportunities still abound. hell, mid may and talking about it and looking at them's already getting me raring for october. lol. anyway, taxidermy fund starts over again. two more mulies to do and i'll be caught up with my personal "bests" that i want on the wall. shouldn't have any trouble collecting a couple quality donor capes for the projects. all in good time.
talk to ya'll later. heading out for a week's vacation up in the mountains with the family and my parents. we missed camping last year for various reasons so we're real excited to get away for a bit. the little boy can hardly stand himself. he's so excited. finally got him to sleep only a couple hours ago. crazy kid.
gotta check how the lakers games go next week so gonna try to get on wireless with the laptop when we go to town for a newspaper. will check in if i can. if not, i'll talk to ya in a week.

i guess i'm not seeing a problem here - headed out the next two weekends to start scouting hunting areas, and then i'll be making bi-weekly trips to look over the herd... mulie season opens up in mid-november here, so i'm a little envious of your early hunts, but i really enjoy cold weather hunting, and october is typically pretty mild here - maybe 50-60° for daytime highs early in the month and 20-40° by halloween. give me 0-20° and that's a good hunt!
if i can't be hunting, might as well be getting ready to hunt.
camping... enjoy! hope it goes swimmingly!

grabbed my last two mulies the other day that i wanted shoulder mounted to finish up my set. totally contrasting animals, for sure.
2002 30" wide :

2006 157" narrow :

this is a pic i've been looking forward to and working towards for a long time, now. i've always had myself a little goal with my mulies ... 6 animals worthy of mounting; all shot locally in the sr valley; with an average over 160" :

mission accomplished !!!

ran out to my taxidermist's last night. thanksgiving's bonus time for my company so i wanted to get him some $$$ to get the ball rolling on shoulder mounts for the sika deer and black hawaiian ram gotten on the last nebraska trip.
i also got to pick up a finished mount from him.
i got this european rambouillet / texas dahl hybrid this last january down in oklahoma. it was a nice ram. 32" curls. so, fully planning on shoulder mounting him, we caped him up and cut the skull cap to save room for the trip home.
minor mistake.
over the next couple weeks, our friend down in ok got ahold of us and said he could get much larger rambouillet's. knowing this, i scrapped the idea (and cost) of the shoulder mount. unfortunately, i'd obviously painted myself into a corner cutting the skull as i had. in hindsight, i should have kept the head whole for a european mount. water under the bridge.
so, back in june, i dropped the skull cap off at the tax and asked what he could do? he rumaged through his books for a couple weeks and called me back with his idea.
he'd found this wall pedistal mounting system that was NOT designed for the horns of an exotic ram. but he thought, with some work, he could make it into something'd unique and look nice. i told him he had free rein to work it up as he saw fit.
i know he had alot more work into this then what he typically would for a standard european mount but he charged me the same. i love the guy. and his work. he knocked it out of the park ... again.
i didn't give him much to work with and what he did surpassed any of my expectations of what i'd be getting back, and by a large margin
:

now ... where to hang it ?

ran up to the taxidermist and picked up some things.
2012 texas dahl ram :

2012 jacob's 4-horn ram :

this was the first 4-horn he'd ever shoulder mounted. to be honest, i think this was the first time he'd ever even seen a 4-horn sheep.
