Hey RD......hate to rain on your parade but check this out.........don't hate me pal but I just thought I'd ask them cuz they sounded kinda neat ie made in WI......see my note to them at end of page in their own website they don't say where the scopes are actually made so I asked them and here is their answer:

Thanks for your interest in our scopes and taking the time to email us. Now on to your questions:
1.) Where are the riflescopes actually produced?
Razor Riflescope series: Japan
Viper PST and Viper Riflescope series: Glass is Japanese but assembled in the Philippines
Diamondback Riflescope series: Glass is Japanese but assembled in the Philippines
Crossfire Riflescope series: China
StrikeFire Red Dot: China
SPARC Red Dot: China
2.) Where can you take a look at our scopes?
The closest dealer I'm pulling up on our dealer locator ( http://www.vortexoptics.com/content/dealers - http://www.vortexoptics.com/content/dealers ) is St. Croix Outdoors in St. Croix Falls, WI. Their phone number is 715-483-9515. I would definitely call before visiting the store to make sure they have the scopes you are interested in, in stock. If they do not have them in stock we can always ship the scopes up to them so you can take a look.
3.) A few of the scopes mentioned above are new for this year and will not be available until later this Spring, that includes: Viper PST, SPARC and several of the Razor Riflescopes.

Same with Night force. components lenses are Japanese. The definition of "made" and "Assembled" can be 'Clinton-ess"
The guy sort of avoids the direct answer in the response to my request three days ago: Thank you for contacting Nightforce Optics. Several of our product lines are assembled and completely manufactured right here in the USA. These would include our entire compact line as well as our new F-1, first focal plane line. Some of our other scopes are assembled with both American and Japanese components. Every Nightforce is however, hand assembled right here in Northern Idaho. bear......I think it is safe to assume (yah, I know what ass-u-me means) but anyway my thought is that almost every line of rifle scopes are made over seas someplace. The only exceptions that I know of are now the Redfield line, some Leupolds, seems like some Nightforce, maybe some Burris or all I don't really know. Anyone know for sure about Burris? Best way to find out I guess is to send them all questions like you and I did with these two companies. I'd venture to say that 99% of shooters who have more than 2 rifle scopes have at least 1 overseas made scope!

You are right IBD. I'm a buy American first person; IF the quality is comparable. Many Japanese lenses are very good, easily equal to most American lenses. Most other Asian country's lenses are cheap junk. The Japanese mechanicals are much lower in design and quality than most American mechanicals (turrets, adjustments, zoom, tubes, etc). Again most Asian's mechanicals are not even as good as the Japanese. Buying a "store Brand" especially, "made in China", is a waste of my money. My shooting is for accuracy and my hunting is rough, poor mechanicals are totally unacceptable to me.

If you dig far enough most products even stuff labeled made in USA have some components made overseas or out of the country. Sometimes it is because of cost and sometimes because the component is not available (made) in the US. One case is the company I work for tries real hard to buy stuff made in USA. We were in the market for a very big very specialized piece of equipment. We contacted every company in the US that made that type of equipment and NONE would or could build us one to our specifications. After 1 year of looking the only company that was willing was one in china so we had no choice but to order it from them. Sometimes US companies are their own worse enemy. ------------- SW Montana |

IBD, No hard feelings here. I was told by the dealer that they were made in Madison. He obviously was full of horse manure, some of which appears by association to have landed on me. I do know, because I saw it with my own eyes, that the clarity and light transmission at 100 yds was better in the Vortex I looked through than in the identical variable power, same objective size too, Loopy on the rifle at the next bench at the range. Given the choice, based on glass, the Votrtex (pardon the pun) was the clear winner. I have no idea on the mechanicals. Well, RD, cuz it's not made here is not to say it might not be OK...remember the best camera lenses used to come from overseas or japan or ???......so maybe it's good. They (votex) have a great guarantee it looks like and MOE's sold them for a couple of years too. Got that from my friend Randy. He said no customers ever came back to complain to him about them. IF you notice in the note they said if my local store don't have what I want to look at just to tell them and the Vortex people would send up what I wanted to look at. That's good PR. IBD, I buy Simmons Pro Hunter Master series for one reason only. I truly believe that the True Zero adjustment system is the most robust internal scope system on the market. From an engineering standpoint a flexible tube has to be much stronger than the Gimble system in all other scopes. The glass is not as good as a Vortex or Loopy but much better than a Burris. The eye relief range on the Simmons is double that on my buddy's Burris which cost him $200 more. IMO the Simmons package gun scopes, Simmons bought at Walmart, the 8 point series etc. are JUNK with tons of parallax. Perhaps this is where they get the bad name. yuh know.....the Simmons name should equate to quality if one considers they were/are a top name in such things as shotgun ribs and other sights. Seems most brands have a "price" leader low end product out there but I think in the long run it may hurt their reputations with knowledgeable buyers. Fella's; Hmmmm, come to think of it, check out U.S. Optics. I do know that the prices are comparable with Nightforce & they have an excellent reputation. What I don't know is if they are 100% made in the USA. 900F ------------- Birth certificate!? He don't need no steenkink birth certificate!! |
