I guess I should have posted sooner, but I wasn't sure If I would be ready to actually archery hunt this year. I got a bow (PSE Stinger) last December. I have been shooting as much as possible. At least 5 nights a week. I think I am ready to hunt. If I can get close enough to a deer to take a shot. I feel comfortable taking a shot at 50 yards.

Anyway, if anyone has any last minute advice I would appreciate it.

Thanks

Right on Wing master.
Our bow season starts tomorrow too. Went out yesterday to tweak in my crossbow one last time at 30 yards. Used to sight it in at 20 yards but i don't have a range finder and i got tired of putting it under the deers belly when i thought he was standing at 20 yards when he was actually 25 yards. I work till 11pm so hopefully i can crawl out of bed before light on opening morning. Good luck to you.

Thanks guys,

I am headed to bed now. Just going for the day, so I will be leaving about 3:30 to get there and set up by daylight.

I kinda have mixed feelings. I hate to see summer coming to an end, but I am ready for hunting season.

I will let you know how it goes.

Hope you did good.  I've killed dozens of deer with archery (low bow, compound,  recurve and crossbow.

One thing I do is use a laser range finder to mark treees at known distances.  I know exactly the distance to every crossing, ,approach or opening viewable from my trees stands.

50 yards is a lot of flight time.  I shoot 27 yards max.  You just have to wait it out.  Shot placement is what it is all about, so short range is important.  My blinds are totally camo, so I need not wear any camo in them.  My blinds are up all year or way before the season so they are invisible to the deer.

Just thoughts

PS  For the last 22 years I've been using a string tracker on my PSE...have never lost a stuck deer.

Well, the season hasn't gone too good so far. I got to go out opening day. I saw lots of does a couple small bucks. They were too far away. One real nice antelope about 20 yards away trying to figure out what I was. I didn't bring my antelope license.

Thats when it all went to hell. Got a call that night my wifes mom passed away in Texas. We have been expecting this call for a couple of months.

Anyway, Now I am in Texas. Trying to get all the legal stuff done. Looks like we should head home this weekend or early next week.

Hopefully I will get back to you soon with more details.
