Hey any of you guy's pick up a youth .22 that worked well.

Been thinking of getting one for the kid (13 yr old).

Let me know if you found an accurate shooter - don't have to look perty.

my preference goes heavily toward a marlin bolt or lever action.

I got the Marlin 15y for Dustin 2 years ago,for a starter. The fiber optic sights gave him a heads-up about "site-window" for open sights I never got,. Bolt action is the ONLY! way to teach accuracy to the beginner,,,make each shot count! not dump a clip! An added plus to the bolt is it can be shot left or right!! Be sure to check for dominate eye and don't force the issue, Dust is cross-dominate,,right handed/left eye!!

I can bench that little rifle into a 50 cent piece at 50 yrds all day,with the factory irons/fiber,using winchester factory ammo. I opted for the stainless model cause of higer re-sale/trade value,purchase was under 200$

Only bitch I got is the trigger pull,,,Very heavy! But, considering teaching youth and saftey!?!? I guess it works,

For range shooting or compition Dustin perfers his left handed Traditions St.Louis Hawkin in .50, .490 ball with a loose patch bout' 40gr.'s a 3f,,,,,,,,,truth,,ask'im,,just don't try ta help'm load!

    That's pretty cool, I'm  thinking bolt also.  I was wondering about the buckaroo bolt youth models but I haven't looked into that - figured I'd ask around first.

When my son turned of an age to shoot, I found an Ithica model 49 at a gun show & got it.  It was a single shot, lever operated, Winchester model 94 look-alike, carbine.  The cost was about $60.00 if I remember right.  Nice little gun that worked well for what we wanted it to do.  It's gone now, traded & upgraded ya know.

Also, take a look at the Savage .22's.  They make a couple of different models in left hand bolt at modest cost.  Nothing over $150.00 I think.  I know that they are a decent gun as I got one a couple of years ago for myself.  There are youth stocks too I think.  In any case, get a Savage brochure & check it out.

Marlin bolt 22 are good guns.  I've got 2 of them, a 22 rf and a22 rf mag.  I got my nephew a buckaroo bolt youth model years ago and he grew up on it.

I'd suggest, since your kid is 13 to get an adult bolt, like the Marlin; and cut an inch off the stock.  At that age they grow like weeds, and he/she willl be out of the youth/Buckaroo model within a year or so.  You can always glue the inch piece back on.  HINT:  before you cut the stock drill two 1/4 inch diameter hole about 1 1/2 inches into the stock parrallel to the butt plate holes, then saw the 1 inch thick piece off.  When you go to attach the piece you can use two 1"x1/4 dowels to align the piece; glue or a white spaced will cover the area between the piece and the stock.  If the joint bothers you, spray the whole stock black so it looks like a syn.

Regard to buying a Used Marlin bolt 22.  For years Marlin had the safety on their bolt guns backwards .  So pushing it forward was 'safe' and pulling it back was 'fire',     Not a good system for a kid to learn on.
