Buying a 22-250 in a Browning Highwall. Mostly I am Leupoldly inclined but wondered what scope would get the warmest welcome here. Could shoot a little paper but think it would be used for hunting more. Hope to shoot small 1 inch groups consistantly with factory ammo.

I think the scope debate will be interesting. I know what I like, but I have a small budget. I like Simmons, but most will say spend $500 or nothing. I think the best factory ammo to try would be the Winchester varmint's, 40 pack are $12 at wally world.

30-40k,

I got a Leuppy Vari-X II 6.5-20X on my Remington 700 Varmint Laminate and that thing really drives tacks.  With factory ammo, it will shoot around 1 inch.  With handloads it's shot under 0.5 inch groups.  Not a walking varmint rig at over 10 pounds (rifle, scope, bipod, sling) but a great one for sitting up on good vantage points.  I wouldn't get anything else for this rig, but that's just me.  Others I would consider are the Burris Black Diamond, Sightron SII Series, Bushnell Elite Series, Nikon Monarch, Target, or Titanium Series and of course other Leuppy's like the Vari-X II.  Since most varmints are taken in good light, you don't HAVE TO HAVE super big objectives and light gathering coatings, but they still make the glass clear!

Happy varminting!

Rig deserves a Leupold. My leanings are toward the 6.5-20, but a 4.5-14 may do the trick. Regards, Eagleye.

Get a leupold !  If the VX3 is too expensove get a new VX2 ! Make sure its the new version, don't take the salesmans word for it, unscrew the caps and turn the turret if it has click adjustments buy it.  They are the best scope buy on the market. I have 3 leupolds 2 busnell elites 1 nikkon monarch and a burris .  The leupolds are certainly the pick of the bunch. From now on all my riflles will get leupolds.  Not just beacuse they help provide american jobs but also they simply  are the best value on the maket period.
